Analysis of electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of small size objects

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá problematikou elektromagnetického stínění, které je významnou součástí oboru elektromagnetická kompatibilita. Stínění zlepšuje odolnost zařízení proti rušivým elektromagnetickým polím. Proto jsou na začátku práce popsány zdroje rušivých signálů a přenosové cesty, kterými se tyto signály mohou šířit do prostoru a do okolních zařízení. V další části jsou návody a doporučení, jak postupovat při návrhu stínícího krytu. Je zde popsáno, jak volit materiály a jak vypočítat tloušťku krytu, pokud chceme stínit blízké elektrické nebo magnetické pole nebo vzdálené pole. O tloušťce krytu většinou rozhoduje permeabilita použitého materiálu a frekvence pole. Nejvíce limitujícím faktorem pro kvalitu stínění jsou obvykle různé dveře, otvory, štěrbiny a různé jiné nehomogenity ve stěně krytu. Uvádím zde proto teoretické vzorce, které nám mohou přibližně ukázat, jaký negativní vliv tyto otvory mají. Splněním doporučení, která zmiňuji v této části, se dá tento vliv zmírnit. Jedná se zejména o různá konstrukční opatření nebo používání vlnovodů. Jako další výrazně negativní vliv na účinnost stínění je zde popsán jev dutinové rezonance. Důležitou součástí návrhu krytu je i otestování jeho skutečné účinnosti stínění. V práci porovnávám dva měřicí postupy. První z nich je měření s anténovým setem na testování účinnosti stínění a druhý je postup, který jsem vyvinul v naší EMC laboratoři. Porovnávám výhody a nevýhody těchto metod a přikládám některé naměřené výsledky, zejména výsledky naší metodiky. Při testovacím měření jsem si ověřil, že je možné zachytit fyzikální jevy spojené se stíněním, popsané v teoretické části této práce. Dalším krokem bylo testování skutečného krytu, který se používá v průmyslovém prostředí. Tento kryt však neměl dobrou účinnost stínění, proto došlo k jeho úpravě podle již zmíněných doporučení. Porovnání účinnosti stínění základní a vylepšené verze krytu jsou uvedeny v závěru práce.

Abstract:

This work deals with issue of electromagnetic shielding, which is important part of electromagnetic compatibility branch. Shielding improves immunity of equipment against electromagnetic field. That is the reason why are described sources of interference signals at the beginning of this work, with the transmission paths, by which is these signals propagate to space and surrounding devices. In the next part are manuals and recommendations, how to proceed by designing of a shielding cover. There is described, how to choose materials and how to calculate thickness of the enclosure, if we want to shield the near electric or magnetic field or the far field. The thickness of the enclosure is mostly determined by permeability of used material and the frequency of the field. The most limiting factors for shielding effectiveness are usually doors, holes, slots and other inhomogeneities in the wall of the cover. That is why I bring in the theoretical equations, which can show us, how negative the influence of these apertures is. These influences can be reduced by fulfilling recommendations mentioned in this part. These are mainly different constructional treatment or using of waveguides. Other strong negative influence described in this chapter is cavity resonance phenomena. Important step by designing the enclosure is measuring its actual shielding effectiveness. I compare two different measuring methods in the work. First of them uses shielding effectiveness antenna set and the second is method I developed in our laboratory. I discuss advantages and disadvantages of these methods and I attach some measured results, especially results of our method. During first testing measuring was verified, that I'm able to record physical effects in shielding, which are described in the theoretical part of this work. After that I proceeded to measuring of the enclosure commonly used in industry. But this enclosure had insufficient level of shielding effectiveness, so we applied some of the mentioned recommendations on it. Comparisons between standard and improved versions of the enclosure are at the end of this work.
