Pain in Children

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem bakalářská práce bylo zjistit nejčastější charakteristiky dětské bolesti a metody zvládání bolesti u dětí z pohledu rodičů/sester. Metodika: V praktické části byly sestaveny dva nestandardizované dotazníky, které poskytly informace o způsobech, jakými tiší bolest rodiče u svých dětí a jak mírní bolest sestry u dětských pacientů. První výzkumný soubor byl tvořen 43 sestrami pracujícími s dětmi v nemocnici Kyjov na oddělení dětské JIP, novorozeneckém oddělení, kojeneckém oddělení a oddělení větších dětí. Druhý výzkumný soubor byl tvořen 49 rodiči široké veřejnosti. Dotazníkové šetření probíhalo od 2. 1. 2013 do 15. 3. 2013. Výsledky: Výsledky dotazníkového šetření prokázaly, že se vyskytují rozdílnosti v charakteristikách dětské bolesti a způsobech tišení bolesti u dětí z hlediska rodičů dětí trpících bolestí a sester pracujících v nemocnici Kyjov na oddělení dětské JIP, novorozeneckém oddělení, kojeneckém oddělení a oddělení větších dětí. Největší zastoupení bolesti u dětí různých věkových kategorií měla akutní bolest, která postihla děti předškolního a školního věku. Zajímavý výsledek byl v porovnání behaviorální metody tišení bolesti rodiči/sestrami u dětí, kdy největší zastoupení měl druh odvádění pozornosti u rodičů i sester. Závěr: Bolest u dětí je problém, který by se neměl nikdy podcenit. Bolest dítěti způsobuje strach, stres a utrpení. Bolest také velmi ovlivňuje rodiče a sestry, které o dítě pečují. Výsledky výzkumu prokazují, že problematika bolesti u dětí má stále značné rezervy v diagnostice a způsobu tišení bolesti rodiči/sestrami. Tudíž by se jí měla nadále věnovat pozornost a veškerá snaha o její prevenci.

Abstract:

Goal: The goal of this bachelor thesis is to find out the most common characteristics of children's pain and methods of coping with the pain from the point of view of nurses/parents. Methodics: In the practical part of the thesis two non-standardized questionnaires had been created which provided information regarding the ways the parents soothe pain of their children and the ways nurses use to soothe children's pain. First research set contained 43 nurses working with children at pediatric ICU, newborns department, baby department and at department of older children at Kyjov hospital. The second research set contained 49 parents from general public. The questionnaire research took place between 2nd January and 15th March 2013. Results: The results show that there are differences in the characteristics of children's pain and in the ways of soothing the pain from parent's perspective and the perspective of nurses working at pediatric ICU, newborns department, baby department and at department of older children. In the comparison of the most usual kinds of pain we can consider the acute pain of pre-school and school children to be the most common one. Quite interesting is the outcome of the comparison of behavioral ways of soothing the pain where both nurses and parents most usually used distracting attention form. Conclusion: The children's pain is a problem not to be underestimated. The pain causes fear, stress and suffering of the children and is also influencing the parents and nurses taking care of the children. The results of the research prove that there is still a lot to improve mainly in diagnostics and in the ways nurses and parents use to sooth the pain of the children. Therefore this issue should remain in the focus of further research.
