Process Mining and its possible implementations in a business environment

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o problematice Process Miningu jako relativně nové disciplíně přemosťující mezeru mezi Process Science a Data Science. Hlavním cílem práce je analýza a zhodnocení možností uplatnění Process Miningu v podnikové praxi. Za tímto cílem se skrývá teoretické přiblížení tématu spočívající v analýze obecných principů, vymezení postavení Process Miningu vůči dalším souvisejícím disciplínám a praktická ukázka.Realizace praktické části práce spočívá v analýze prostředí energetické společnosti a následné implementaci pilotního řešení Process Miningu. Projekt je zaměřen na rekonstrukci procesu nákupu na základě dat ukládaných do logu událostí v podnikovém informačním systému SAP. Projekt se skládá ze čtyř hlavních fází, kterými jsou analýza požadavků, extrakce dat, datové analýzy a interpretace výsledků.Hlavním výstupem projektu a diplomové práce je pilotní řešení obsahující rekonstruovaný a vizualizovaný proces nákupu dodaný v přehledném dashboardu. Energetická společnost realizací projektu získává účinný nástroj pro sledování procesu z několika dimenzí, na jejichž základě proces může efektivně řídit, měřit a optimalizovat.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with Process Mining, a relatively young discipline which is bridging the gap between Process Science and Data Science. The aim of this thesis is to analyse and evaluate the possible implementations of Process Mining in a business environment. Achieving this requires a theoretical approach, centred in the analysis of the basic principles of Process Mining and how it relates to other disciplines in the field. The theory is supported by a practical demonstration.The practical part of this thesis involves analysing the environment of an energy company and subsequently implementing a pilot solution involving Process Mining. The project focuses on reconstructing the Procure-to-Pay process based on the event-data logs stored in the company’s SAP information system. There are four main phases of this project: setting out the requirements, extracting the data, analysing the data and interpreting the results. The result of this thesis project is the successful creation of a visualized reconstruction of the Procure-to-Pay process, which can be displayed clearly on a dashboard. Thus, the energy company gains an efficient tool to monitor the process on multiple levels and enables them to effectively manage, measure and optimise this process.
