Interpretation of the authorial intent in the films by Pavel Juráček

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá realizovanými filmy režiséra Pavla Juráčka, v nichž interpretuje jeho autorský záměr, a to na základě východisek přejatých z teorie interpretace historických textů Quentina Skinnera. Detailně popisuje okolnosti vzniku Juráčkových filmů a dobové diskuze, do nichž se mohl chtít zapojit, aby co nejpřesněji identifikovala témata, ke kterým se prostřednictvím svých filmů vyjadřoval. Zároveň pak rekonstruuje soubor jeho přesvědčení, jenž slouží jako kritický nástroj k posouzení vhodnosti jednotlivých interpretací jeho autorského záměru, které vychází jak z dobových kritik, tak z provedené narativní analýzy jeho filmů. Této analýze jsou v práci za účelem vzájemné komparace podrobena i vybraná umělecká díla, jež reprezentovala dobový narativní diskurz. Díky této komparaci je možné poukázat na odlišné příběhové a vyprávěcí volby, jež v rámci svých filmů Juráček učinil a mohou tak být indexem jeho primárního záměru v jednotlivých filmech.

Abstract:

The dissertation deals with films directed by Pavel Juráček, in which it interprets his authorial intent, based on propositions taken from a theory of interpretation of historical texts by Quentin Skinner. It describes in detail the circumstances of the creation of Juráček's films and the contemporary discussions, in which he may have wanted to participate, in order to identify as accurately as possible the topics on which he commented through his films. At the same time, it reconstructs a set of his beliefs, which serves as a critical tool for assessing the suitability of individual interpretations of his authorial intent, which arise from contemporary reviews and from the narrative analysis of his films. For the purpose of mutual comparison, selected works of art, which represented contemporary narrative discourse, are also subjected to this analysis. Thanks to this comparison, it is possible to point out different story and narrative choices that Juráček made in his films and which thus can be an index of his primary authorial intent in individual films.
