Automated Text Placement on the Maps for Crisis Management

Abstract:

Disertační práce je zaměřena na problematiku automatického umísťování popisu na mapách určených pro účely krizového managementu (KM). Problematika popisu na mapách je v práci posuzována komplexně. Zvláštní pozornost je věnovaná problematice popisu map určených pro účely KM. Práce prezentuje technologické řešení navržené v průběhu řešení výzkumného záměru MSM0021622418 Dynamická geovizualizace v krizovém managementu a jeho možnosti v oblasti automatického umístění popisu. Jádro práce tvoří návrh doporučení pro umístění popisu na mapách pro KM. Návrh vychází z doporučení uvedených v rešeršní části práce. V případě rozporuplnosti doporučení více autorů bylo přistoupeno k testování uživatelských preferencí. Výsledkem je systém doporučení, který komplexně pokrývá problematiku umísťování popisu na mapách pro KM. Vytvořený systém doporučení byl implementován a testován na pilotní studii "Přeprava nebezpečných nákladů" v rámci řešení výzkumného záměru. Implementace zajistí následné praktické využití výsledků práce v budoucnosti.

Abstract:

This thesis is aimed at the topic of automated names placement with focus on maps designed for crisis management. A complex attitude to this topic is presented. A special chapter is dedicated to the issue of maps designed for the purposes of crisis management with the focus on their annotations. Technological solution designed by the project No. MSM0021622418 called Dynamic Geovisualization in Crisis Management and its possibilities within the field of automatic labeling are also described. The core of the thesis is formed by a proposal of recommendations for lettering and label placement primarily designed for use on the maps for crisis management. Proposals are based on recommendations acquired from the literature retrieval. Testing of users’ preferences was performed in cases where there was antagonism between various authors’ recommendations. The designed system of recommendations represents a complex solution for the maps for crisis management. The presented system of recommendations was implemented in the case study “Dangerous materials transportation” within the project Dynamic Geovisualization in Crisis Management. This will provide practical application and use of the results in the future.
