Jaroslav Syřiště: Cubist Architecture

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je kubistická tvorba prof. Jaroslava Syřiště. Jelikož je architektonický kubismus specifickým českým fenoménem, její úvodní část se proto věnuje jeho postupným vývojem. Protože je kubistická architektura přece jen více příznačnější pro Prahu, než Brno, popisuje práce i atmosféru v brněnské architektuře, pro kterou byl kubismus přece jen spíše alternativou než slohem, který by ji ovládal. Práce se tedy v úvodních kapitolách zabývá vývojem brněnské architektury v první polovině dvacátého století. Druhá, stěžejní část práce seznamuje s osobností prof. Jaroslava Syřiště. Nejprve vykresluje jeho veřejnou činnost, zasedání ve stavebních komisích, působení na ČVŠT apod., následně je pak popisován vývoj umělcovy tvorby a cesta ke kubistické architektuře, zároveň i částečné ovlivnění funkcionalismem v pozdější fázi jeho díla. Dále je nastíněno zmíněno autorovo přispění k řešení bytové otázky účastí na projektu kolonie „Nový dům“. V souvislosti s tématem pojednává závěrečná část o dalších příkladech kubismu v brněnské architektuře. Brno skýtalo během těchto let v architektuře velké možnosti. To bylo zapříčiněno jeho velkým rozmachem a potřebou nových, soukromých i veřejných budov.

Abstract:

This Bachelor’s thesis deals with the cubistic works of prof. Jaroslav Syřiště and also the development of cubistic architecture in Brno. As the cubistic architecture was always more characteristic feature of Prague, rather than Brno, this thesis also describes the atmosphere among architects in Brno, for whom the cubism was always more of an alternative, rather than a dominant architectural style. The first, introductory chapters cover the development of architecture in Brno during the first half of the twentieth century, the second and main part introduces prof. Jaroslav Syřiště. These chapters cover his public activities: his work in various building supervision boards, activities at Czech Techical Universtity (ČVŠT) etc.; then the development of Syřiště’s work and his inclination to the cubisic style and also the partial impact of functionalism on his late works; and finally, Syřiště’s contibution to the project New House (Nový dům). In addition to this, the closing chapter concerns itself with other examples of cubistic architecture in Brno, as Brno was experiencing a large growth during the first half of the twentieth century and the need of construction of many new buildings, public as well as non-public, provided numerous opportinities for architecture to express iself.
