The Study on the Surface Activity of Selected Adamantane Compounds

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the study on the surface activity of selected adamantane compounds. This activity is characterized by the so-called critical micelle concentration, which is a crucial parameter of surface-active agents. In the theoretical part of this thesis, there are drug delivery systems described. These systems may consist of surface active agents, among others; the important attribute of these agents is their ability to form supramolecular aggregates (micelles). Further chapters are devoted to properties and applications of surface active agents and micellization as well. In the theoretical part, there is given an overview of methods suitable for determination of the critical micelle concentration. In the experimental part, following methods has been employed for determination of the critical micelle concentration: tensiometry, isothermal titration calorimetry and monitoring of changes in the contact angle while wetting. In this thesis, comparisons of critical micelle concentration values of the individual selected samples as well as comparisons of these values dependence on the particular method are provided. An effect of beta-cyclodextrin on the critical micelle concentration has been also studied. In conclusion, this work reveals the potential of adamantane-containing imidazolium salts to form supramolecular aggregates(micelles) in water medium.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na studium povrchové aktivity vybraných sloučenin s adamantanovým skeletem. Tato aktivita je charakterizována prostřednictvím tzv. kritické micelární koncentrace, jež je klíčovým parametrem povrchově aktivních látek. V teoretické části této práce jsou představeny systémy pro uvolňování a transport léčiv. Tyto systémy mohou být tvořeny mj. povrchově aktivními látkami, které se vyznačují tvorbou supramolekulárních agregátů (micel). Další kapitoly této práce jsou věnovány vlastnostem a aplikacím povrchově aktivních látek a také procesu tvorby micel. Je zde také uveden přehled metod, které mohou být použity ke stanovení kritické micelární koncentrace. Ke stanovení tohoto důležitého parametru byly v praktické části zvoleny následující metody: tenziometrie, izotermální titrační kalorimetrie a sledování změn kontaktního úhlu v průběhu smáče-ní. Práce poskytuje srovnání hodnot kritických micelárních koncentrací v rámci jednotlivých vybraných vzorků, stejně tak jako srovnání těchto hodnot v závislosti na použité metodě. V praktické části je mimo jiné sledován vliv beta-cyklodextrinu na kritickou micelární koncentraci. Práce tak poodhaluje potenciál supramolekulárních systémů v biomedicínských aplikacích.
