Gender discrimination in job recruitment and the possibilities of its elimination

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou genderové diskriminace při přijímání do pracovního poměru a hledá možnosti, jak tento problém eliminovat. Ženy se setkávají s překážkami, které jim znesnadňují vstup na pracovní trh nebo omezují jejich výběr pracovních pozic. Můžeme mezi ně zařadit diskriminující inzeráty, ve kterých zaměstnavatelé upřednostňují mužské uchazeče; selekci životopisů a ústní pohovor, které jsou vykonávány na základě stereotypních představ o mužských a ženských rolích a znevýhodňují ženy; i výkonnostní testy, které mohou být diskriminující. Genderová diskriminace tak přispívá k segregaci zaměstnání podle pohlaví. Ta představuje míru, v jaké jsou jednotlivá zaměstnání okupována ve větší míře muži či ženami (horizontální segregace) a jaké pozice zastávají (vertikální segregace). Důsledkem segregace je rozdíl v mzdovém ohodnocení, kdy plat žen dlouhodobě dosahuje jen 75 % platu muže. Genderová diskriminace se tak podílí na výsledné nerovnosti na trhu práce. Podkladem k identifikaci diskriminačních aspektů jsou odborná literatura, metodiky genderových auditů a sociologické experimenty z oblasti trhu práce. Na základě zjištěných informací jsou dále v práci představeny možné úpravy těchto diskriminujících praktik, které by tyto problémy odstranily.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis concerns the issues of gender discrimination during job recruitment and looks for ways to eliminate this problem. Women encounter difficulties and limitations when entering a labor market. Among these obstacles can be classified discriminatory job advertisements in which employers prefer male candidates; selection of CVs and oral interviews that are carried out on the basis of stereotypical images of male and female roles and thus disadvantage women; and performance tests that may be discriminatory. Gender discrimination thus contributes to job segregation by sex. This segregation represents the extent to which individual jobs are occupied to a greater extent by men or women (horizontal segregation) and what positions they hold (vertical segregation). The effect of segregation is the difference in wage valuation, in the long run women’s salary is only 75 % of the male’s salary. Gender discrimination thus contributes to the resulting inequality in the labor market. The basis for identification of discriminatory aspects are literature, gender audit’s methodologies and sociological experiments from the labor market. Possible changes that could remove the discriminatory practices are based on this information and then presented in the bachelor thesis.
