Fish assemblages in newly built small water bodies in South Moravian Region: factors affecting colonisation, assemblage structure and dynamics

Abstract:

Drobné vodní plochy (tůně) jsou významným prvkem pro zadržení vody v krajině a zachování biodiverzity bezobratlých živočichů a obojživelníků. Ke snížení biodiverzity drobných vodních bezobratlých přispívají zásadním způsobem ryby, jejichž přítomnost v tůních je většinou nežádoucí. Tato práce se zabývá studiem faktorů, které ovlivňují přítomnost ryb v nově vzniklých tůních, a zkoumá sezónní dynamiku rybího společenstva. Vzorkování probíhalo od léta 2022 do podzimu 2023 na 131 lokalitách v Jihomoravském kraji. Na 59 lokalitách se ryby nevyskytovaly. Na většině lokalit s výskytem ryb byly zaznamenány původní i nepůvodní druhy, nejmenší podíl měly lokality s pouze původními druhy. Nejčastěji se vyskytujícími druhy byly nepůvodní střevlička východní (Pseudorasbora parva) a karas stříbřitý (Carassius gibelio) a původní perlín ostrobřichý (Scardinius erythrophthalmus). Zatímco stáří tůně a její rozloha zvyšovaly pravděpodobnost výskytu ryb, negativní vliv na přítomnost ryb měly šířka litorálního pásma, vysychavost a pokrytí vodní vegetací. Nejvyšší hodnoty relativní biomasy ryb byly zaznamenány v letním období. Zatímco druhové složení bylo mezisezónně poměrně stabilní, relativní biomasa vykazovala vysoké výkyvy, spojené hlavně s výkyvy abundance střevličky východní.

Abstract:

Small water bodies (ponds) are an important element for water retention in the landscape and for the preservation of invertebrate and amphibian biodiversity. Fish, whose presence in pools is usually undesirable, are a major contributor to the reduction in the biodiversity of small aquatic invertebrates. This diploma thesis studies the factors that influence the presence of fish and examines the seasonal dynamics of the fish community in newly built pools in the South Moravian Region. Sampling was conducted from summer 2022 to autumn 2023 at 131 sites. At 59 sites, fish were absent. The majority of sites with fish occurrence recorded both native and non-native species, the smallest proportion had sites with only native species. The most frequently occurring species were the non-native topmouth gudgeon (Pseudorasbora parva) and Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio) and the native common rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus). While pond age and area increased the chance of fish presence, the width of the littoral zone, dessication and aquatic vegetation cover had a negative effect on fish presence. The highest relative fish biomass values were recorded in summer season. While species composition was relatively stable between seasons, relative biomass showed high fluctuations, mainly associated with fluctuations in the abundance of topmouth gudgeon.
