Role of emotional intelligence and perceived organizational support on burnout syndrome

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to examine protective factors against burnout syndrome and to extend the knowledge in this area to the sample of multiple occupational groups.More specifically, we examined the relationship between emotional intelligence, perceived organizational support and burnout syndrome and whether perceived organizational support acts as a mediator in the emotional intelligence-burnout relationship in a sample of multiple occupational groups. To test the hypotheses, we used questionnaire methods on a sample of 116 respondents. We verified the relationship between emotional intelligence and burnout syndrome as well as between perceived organizational support and burnout syndrome in a sample of multiple occupational groups. We did not find support for the emotional intelligence-perceived organizational support relationship. We also did not find support for the mediating relationship of perceived organizational support on the emotional intelligence-burnout relationship. We discuss implications of the findings as well as possible directions for future research in the discussion.

Abstract:

Práca bola zameraná na protektívne faktory voči syndrómu vyhorenia a na rozšírenie poznatkov v tejto oblasti na vzorku viacerých profesných skupín. Konkrétne sme skúmali vzťah medzi emočnou inteligenciou, vnímanou oporou organizácie a syndrómom vyhorenia a zisťovali sme, či je vnímaná opora organizácie mediátorom vo vzťahu emočnej inteligencie a syndrómu vyhorenia u zamestnancov širokej škály profesií. Na overenie hypotéz boli použité dotazníkové metódy a výskumný súbor tvorilo 116 respondentov. Potvrdili sme vzťah medzi emočnou inteligenciou a syndrómom vyhorenia a rovnako medzi vnímanou oporou organizácie a syndrómom vyhorenia u zamestnancov širokej škály profesií. Vzťah medzi emočnou inteligenciou a vnímanou oporou organizácie sa v tejto práci nepotvrdil. Taktiež sa nepotvrdil predpokladaný mediačný vzťah vnímanej opory organizácie na vzťah emočnej inteligencie a syndrómu vyhorenia. V diskusii rozoberáme aplikovateľnosť zistení a možnosti pre ďalší výskum.
