Pre-hospital Emergency Care for a patient with Autism Spectrum Disorder from the Perspective of a Paramedic

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je psána na téma přednemocniční neodkladná péče u pacienta s poruchou autistického spektra pohledem zdravotnického záchranáře. Bakalářská práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a praktickou. Teoretická část bakalářské práce je rozdělena do dvou kapitol. První kapitola teoretické práce je zaměřena zejména na seznámení s poruchou autistického spektra. V této části je popsána historie poruch autistického spektra, charakteristika, prevalence, jednotlivé formy poruch autistického spektra a možnosti diagnostiky a terapie. Druhá kapitola teoretické práce se zabývá přednemocniční neodkladnou péčí u pacientů s poruchou autistického spektra. V této části jsou popsány zásady během poskytování přednemocniční neodkladné péče, možnosti komunikace s pacientem a bezpečnostní opatření. Pro praktickou část, která je realizována kvalitativní metodou průzkumu prostřednictvím polostrukturovaného rozhovoru, jsou stanoveny tři průzkumné cíle. Cílem rozhovoru je zjistit, jak zdravotničtí záchranáři postupují při poskytování PNP u pacientů s poruchou autistického spektra, problematické oblasti při poskytování PNP u pacientů s poruchou autistického spektra z pohledu zdravotnických záchranářů a zjistit doporučení zdravotnických záchranářů pro poskytování PNP u pacientů s poruchou autistického spektra. Polostrukturovaný rozhovor byl proveden s šesti zdravotnickými záchranáři. V závěrečné části práce jsou uvedena doporučení pro praxi, která vycházejí z výsledků průzkumu.

Abstract:

The bachelor’s thesis is written on the topic of pre-hospital emergency care in patients with autism spectrum disorder from the perspective of a paramedic. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. Theoretical part of the bachelor's thesis is structured into two chapters. The first chapter focuses primarily on introducing autism spectrum disorder. It covers the history of autism, its characteristics, prevalence, individual forms of autism, and diagnosis and therapy options. The second chapterof the theoretical bachelor's thesis deals with pre-hospital emergency care for patients with autism spectrum disorder. It describes the principles of providing pre-hospital emergency care, options for communicating with the patient, and safety measures. For the practical part, which is implemented using a qualitative research method through a semi-structured interview, three research objectives are set. The aim of the interviews is to identify how paramedics proceed when providing pre-hospital emergency care to patients with autism spectrum disorder, the problematic areas in providing such care from the paramedics’ perspective, and the paramedics’ recommendations for delivering pre-hospital emergency care to these patients. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six paramedics. The final part of the thesis presents recommendations for practice, based on the survey results.
