History of Czech sci-fi literature (Origin and development sci-fi genre in Czech literature to the Second World War)

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce navazuje na bakalářskou práci Žánr sci-fi v české literatuře, představuje její rozpracování a rozšíření. Mapuje historické kořeny a počátky české sci-fi literatury. Jejím cílem je zpracovat historický model počátečního vývoje žánru science fiction v české umělecké literatuře, vymezeného od poslední třetiny 19. století do druhé světové války. Základem práce je definice science fiction jako žánru, umožňující identifikovat literární díla v této kategorii. Práce dále pokračuje periodizací, která slouží k základní orientaci v následně vedené historické linii, a má dvě základní části. V první části se registrují zárodky žánru science fiction v české literatuře a ve druhé zárodky jeho subžánrů v této literatuře. Druhá část se proto dále zakládá na přehledu subžánrů. Prezentované subžánrové kategorie jsou následně aplikovány na meziválečnou českou sci-fi literaturu, která je podle nich klasifikována.Práce by měla odhalit vývojový směr, kterým se žánr science fiction ve svých počátcích vyvíjel v české literatuře, a další směry, kterými se česká sci-fi literatura ubírala ve své rozmanitosti.

Abstract:

This diploma degree thesis follows-up to the Bachelor Degree Thesis Sci-fi genre in Czech literature when representing its elaboration and enlargement. It maps the historic origin and beginning of the Czech sci-fi literature. It aims to working out a historic model of science fiction genre early development in the Czech belles lettres, during the last third of 19. century and 20. century (up to the Second World War). The basis of the work is the definition of science fiction as a genre which enables to identify literary works of this cathegory. The work is further continued with a periodization being used for basic orientation in following the leading historic line. The work consists of two basic parts. There are early forms of science fiction genre in Czech literature presented in the first part and ones of subgenres in the second part. That is why the second part is based on an overview of certain subgenres. The presented subgenre cathegories are subsequently applied to a the inter-war Czech sci-fi literature, which is classified according to them.The work should show a direction of science fiction genre early development in Czech literature and its other proceeding directions as to the variety.
