Magic and Mysticism in Folk Medicine in Bulgaria and Macedonia

Abstract:

Práce předkládá pohled na lidovou medicínu jako fenomén tradiční kultury na území Bulharska a Makedonie tak, jak je nahlížena ve světle dosavadních výzkumů souvisejících folklorních žánrů. Hlavním cílem je pak vlastní interpretace rituálních praktik a zaříkání jako jejich verbální části, používaných v lidové medicíně, v kontextu se svébytnými mytologickými představami, a to pomocí sémiotické analýzy, s přihlédnutím k dalším interpretačním rozměrům z hlediska kulturní historie, folkloristiky a etnografie. Naznačen je současně diachronně pojímaný vývoj lidové medicíny v kontextu se specifickými geopolitickými a sociálními faktory. Je zhodnocena role magie a mysticismu v lidové medicíně, které jsou chápány v širším slova smyslu jako transcendentní religiózní zkušenosti.

Abstract:

The phenomenon of folk medicine as a part of traditional perception of the world represents a specific episode in the folk culture in the Bulgarian and Macedonian Territory. The folk medicine is shown on the base of previous research of related folklore genres. The main goal of this diploma thesis is an interpretation of magic rituals and incantations as their oral part which are used in the traditional medicine practice. It is used several methodological approaches, namely semiotic, folkloristic and ethnographic that helped us to present the wider skill of methods and systems that lead us to broad spectrum interpretations and more thorough analyses of the subject of the myth, the ritual and the folklore. Furthermore, the progress of traditional medicine is outlined in the historical perspective in specific geopolitical and social aspects.
