Antiquarian Bookshops Benchmarking Utilizing the AHP Method

Abstract:

V dnešním světě radikálního technického pokroku a rostoucího tlaku konkurence je stále více kladen důraz na správné rozhodování. Oblastí zájmu bakalářské práce je tak analytické řešení komplexních rozhodovacích problémů, zejména strategického managementu. Jako východisko z takových složitých problémů je navržen postup využívající dekompozici komplikovaných systémů do hierarchické struktury a po specifikaci dílčích prvků zpětnou syntézu. Na tomto principu je postavena metoda AHP (Analytický hierarchický proces), vyvinutá Thomasem L. Saatym. Cílem práce je zařadit metodu AHP do kontextu teorie rozhodování s důrazem na vícekriteriální hodnocení variant v teoretické části a navrhnout postup jejího použití v oblasti benchmarkingu, jakožto nástroje strategického managementu. Tento postup aplikace AHP je demonstrován na reálném projektu firmy Antikvariát Dana Kurovce, ve kterém bylo porovnáno modelem 9 konkurenčních antikvariátů se zkoumanou firmou. Výsledky byly testovány analýzou citlivosti softwaru Expert Choice a po prokázání jejich dostatečné robustnosti došlo k identifikování pozice firmy na trhu a konkrétních oblastí, ve kterých jednotlivé konkurenční subjekty dosahují lepších výsledků. Na závěr projektu byla stanovena doporučení, která budou použita pro strategický plán firmy. V práci pak lze nalézt zhodnocení metody AHP jako nástroje benchmarkingu, její výhody a možné problémy spojené při jejím použití v praxi.

Abstract:

In today's world of radical technological progress and increasing pressure from competition there is more and more emphasis on sound decision making. This bachelor thesis deals with analytical solution of complex decision making problems, especially of those of strategic management. As a resource in these kind of situations a procedure is designed utilizing decomposition of complicated systems into hierarchic structure and consecutive re-synthesis after the specification of individual elements. The AHP method, which is used here, is based on this procedure. We applied this procedure to the Dan Kurovec Antiquarian Bookshop comparing it with another nine different antiquarian bookshops from the same city. The outcome was tested by the Expert Choice software and was found to be robust to shifts in preferences. After this the firm's market position was identified along with areas where the competition achieves better results thus identifying the firm's 'role models' in particular areas. From this recommendations were drawn for formulation of a strategic plan of the firm. The AHP method as a tool of benchmarking, with its advantages and possible problems, was also discussed.
