The Influence of the Migration Policy of Jordan on Syrian Refugees Living on Its Territory

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá jordánskými migračními politikami a jejich vlivem na život oslovených syrských uprchlíků v rámci přímého terénního kvalitativního výzkumu. Cílem bylo zhodnotit vliv státních migračních politik na životní situaci syrských rodin v celé její komplexnosti napříč řadou oblastí a odlišit se tak od množství kvantitativních výzkumů tohoto tématu, které se dostatečně nezaměřují na specifika lidských příběhů. Výzkum probíhal formou hloubkových přímých rozhovorů se sedmi syrskými uprchlíky žijícími v Jordánsku. Výsledky odhalily nedostatky veřejných politik vůči uprchlíkům zejména na poli přístupu k pracovnímu trhu, který značně ovlivňuje ekonomickou situaci a celkovou stabilitu rodin. Práce rovněž poodhalila řadu postojů syrských uprchlíků vztahujících se k jejich právům a příležitostem a v závěru nastínila možný další rozvoj podobného typu výzkumu.

Abstract:

This thesis explores Jordan's migration policy and its impact on the lives of Syrian refugees interviewed through direct qualitative field research. The aim was to assess the impact of state migration policies on the living situation of Syrian families in all its complexity across a range of areas, and to differentiate itself from the plethora of quantitative research on this topic that does not focus sufficiently on the specifics of individual live stories. The research took the form of in-depth face-to-face interviews with seven Syrian refugees living in Jordan. The results revealed the shortcomings of public policies towards refugees, particularly in the field of access to the labour market, which greatly affects the economic situation and overall stability of families. The thesis also revealed a number of Syrian refugees' attitudes related to their rights and opportunities and concluded by outlining the possible further development of this type of research.
