Geographical aspects of the language landscape and possibilities of its visual presentation on the example of the Ústí region

Abstract:

Interdisciplinární koncept "jazykové krajiny", který vytváří teoretický základ této diplomové práce, je výsledkem spojení onomastiky, lingvistiky a geografie. Cílem práce je zaměřit se zejména na možnosti vizuální (kartografické) prezentace jazykové krajiny v tematických mapách (nejen) pomocí nástrojů GIS. V rámci realizace práce budou navrženy (kartografické) vyjadřovací prostředky, které budou následně využitelné pro mapy či jiné vizuálie do didaktických, případně propagačních materiálů v rámci regionu. Náplň samotných materiálů bude zjišťována především participativním mapováním (PPGIS). Zvoleným regionem bude Ústecký kraj s tím, že uvedený koncept bude sledován jak na úrovni celého kraje, příp. menších regionů, tak na lokální úrovni na příkladech vybraných měst. Předpokládaná struktura (postup) práce: 1. úvod; 2. teoretické zarámování jazykové krajiny a možnosti její vizuální prezentace, regionální identita a image regionu ve vazbě na jazykovou krajinu; 3. příkladová studie vybraných území a lokalit; 4. možnosti participativního mapování jazykové krajiny; 5. možnosti a návrhy (kartografické) vizuální prezentace jazykové krajiny v tematických mapách pomocí GIS; 6. diskuze a závěr.

Abstract:

The interdisciplinary concept of "language landscape", which forms the theoretical background of this work, is the result of a combination among onomastics, linguistics and geography. The aim of this work is to focus mainly on the possibilities of visual (cartographic) presentation of the language landscape in thematic maps (not only) using GIS tools. In the frame of the work will be proposed (cartographic) expression, which will be subsequently usable for maps or other visuals in didactic or promotional materials within the region. The content of the materials themselves will be determined mainly by participative mapping (PPGIS). The selected region will be the Ústí Region in different scales - region itself, parts of the region, as well as local level in the examples of selected cities. Assumed structure of the work: 1. introduction; 2. theoretical framing of the language landscape and possibilities of its visual presentation, regional identity and image of the region in relation to the language landscape; 3. example study of selected areas and localities; 4. possibilities of participatory mapping of the language landscape; 5. possibilities and suggestions in (cartographic) visual presentation of the language landscape in thematic maps using GIS; 6. Discussion and conclusion.
