The preparation and characterisation of carbonaceous xerogel synthesized by polycondensation of m-substituted phenols with furfural

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá přípravou, charakterizací a porovnáním uhlíkatých materiálů (xerogelů), u kterých byl při přípravě použit furfural a m-substituované fenoly jako prekurzory. Byly připraveny vzorky dvou typů. První typ vychází ze směsi resorcinolu a furfuralu a druhý typ ze směsi m-kresolu, fenolu a furfuralu. Následnou charakterizací bylo zjištěno, že vzorky vykazovaly smrštění 9 ? 39 % po sušení a 22 ? 51 % po pyrolýze. Hustota vzorků se pohybovala v rozmezí 0,16 ? 0,43 g/cm3. Snímky pořízené pomocí SEM ukázaly velkou podobnost vzorků ve struktuře, přičemž vzorky se skládaly z drobných propojených kulovitých částic. Hmotnostní úbytky při pyrolýze zjištěné pomocí TGA se pohybovaly v rozmezí 51 ? 54 %, objemové úbytky zjištěné pomocí TMA pak v rozmezí 50 ? 62 %. Sorpce Pb2+ iontů byla velmi nízká, méně než 0,05 mmol/g. Sorpce methylenové modři se pohybovala v rozmezí 0,04 ? 0,15 mmol/g. Sorpce I2 dosahovala hodnot 1,54 - 1,75 mmol/g a sorpce fenolu pak 0,77 ? 0,92 mmol/g.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with preparation, characterization and comparison of carbonaceous materials (xerogels), which were prepared by using furfural and m-substituted phenols as precursors. Two types of the samples were synthetized. The first type is based on a mixture of resorcinol and furfural and the second one from a mixture of m-cresol, phenol and furfural. The further characterization showed that the shrinkage of the samples was in the range of 9 ? 39 % after drying and 22 ? 51 % after pyrolysis. The densities of the samples were in the range of 0.16 ? 0.43 g/cm3. The images of the samples taken by SEM showed distinctive similarity in the structure, whereas the structure consisted of the small connected spherical particles. Weight losses during pyrolysis obtained by TGA were in the range 51 ? 54 %, volumetric losses obtained by TMA were in the range 50 ? 62 %. Sorption of Pb2+ ions was very low, less than 0.05 mmol/g. Sorption of methylene blue ranged between 0.04 ? 0.15 mmol/g. Sorption of I2 reached the values of 1.54 ? 1.75 mmol/g and sorption of phenol was 0.77 ? 0.92 mmol/g.
