Use of new media in a public institution

Abstract:

Diplomová práce "Využití nových médií ve státní instituci" vychází z teoretických poznatků o nových médiích, které jsou popsány v první, teoretické části. Dále je popsána role médií veřejné služby v procesu komunikace s dalšími subjekty a s alternativními přístupy státních institucí ke komunikace, zejména s využitím nových médií. Další část se věnuje muzeím, jejich roli a postavení ve společnosti a specifiky jejich komunikace a vztahu s návštěvníky. Je také hlouběji představena jedna z mnoha možností rozšíření komunikačních kanálů muzea formou webového portálu s elektronickými popisky exponátů. Takto je totiž možné hlouběji představit vystavovaný exponát a přiblížit jeho původ a funkci i laické veřejnosti. Elektronické popisky nabízejí oproti klasickým mnoho výhod. Nejsou omezena na obrázky, text a fyzické rozměry popisku na ceduli. Mohou obsahovat multimédia, mnohojazyčný obsah i odkazy na další zdroje. V závěru je představeno konkrétní technické řešení pomocí objektově orientované databáze, PHP stránek a předdefinovaných SQL dotazů. Na tyto stránky je odkazováno pomocí QR kódů, které jsou v práci také detailně popsány.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis Use of new media within government agencies - findings from theoretical research of new media, which are described in detail in the first theoretical part of the work. Following this there is an outline of a role of media in public service in the process of communication with other subjects. There is also an introduction to alternative approaches to government agencies communication particularly using new media. The next chapter is dedicated to museums and their changing role in society, and the special features of its communication and relationship to its visitors. There is also an example of one specific possibility of enhancement of communication channels in the form of web portals with electronic labels describing exhibited objects. In this way the object described can be exhibited in more depth and so better introduced to visitors regarding its origin and purpose. Electronic labels are not limited to text and pictures and the physical dimensions of traditional labels. It can contain multimedia, multiple language mutations and dynamic links to other online sources. By the end of the thesis a very concrete technical solution using object-oriented database, PHP webpages and predefined SQL queries has been depicted. Users are redirected to these labels containing webpages by using QR codes, which can be scanned by any capable mobile device.
