Cultural adaptation of foreign employees in a company operating in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o kulturní adaptaci, a to konkrétně adaptaci zahraničních zaměstnanců, kteří se rozhodli přestěhovat do České republiky a začít pracovat ve vybrané mezinárodní firmě. Za účelem identifikování a zhodnocení nastavených procesů ve firmě se tato diplomová práce zabývá teoriemi různých autorů o kultuře a kulturních dimenzí a následně procesu kulturní adaptace, jeho průběhu, kulturním šoku a možnostech interkulturního tréninku. Praktická část se zabývá vlastním výzkumem kulturní adaptace ve vybrané firmě působící v ČR. Práce se zaměřuje na identifikaci nastavených procesů z pohledu firmy za jejímž účelem byly provedeny rozhovory s koordinátorkami mobility, imigrační podpory a vzdělávání a rozvoje zaměstnanců. Pro zhodnocení zkušeností samotných zahraničních zaměstnanců a jejich kulturní adaptace byly učiněné rozhovory s vybranými zaměstnanci. V závěru této práce jsou následně porovnány výsledky výzkumu s teoretickými poznatky a jsou dána návazná doporučení pro firmu.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on cultural adaptation, specifically adaptation of foreign employees, that decided to move to the Czech Republic and start working in the selected international company. For the purposes of identification and evaluation of the processes set in this company, this diploma thesis firstly focuses on the theories of culture and cultural dimensions from various authors and the cultural adaptation, its process, cultural shock, and the possibilities of intercultural trainings. The empirical part focuses on own research of the cultural adaptation from the company’s point of view. For this purpose, interviews were conducted with coordinators of mobility, immigration support and learning and development of employees. For the evaluation of the experience of the foreign employees and their cultural adaptation interviews were conducted with the selected foreign employees. At the end of this thesis, the results of the research are compared with the theoretical aspects and further recommendations for the company are given.
