Polarization dependence of optical difraction

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá simulacemi rozptylu elektromagnetického vlnění na difrakčních mřížkách. Měření změny polarizace světla při rozptylu je podstatou experimentální metody elipsometrie. Cílem práce je prověřit možnost použití simulací k určování geometrických parametrů profilu mřížek na základě výsledků elipsometrických měření. Součástí práce je popis simulačního programu Fullwave, analýza simulací a srovnání výsledků s měřením na skutečné mřížce. Teoretická část obsahuje Sommerfeldovo řešení rozptylu na vodivé polorovině, tj. elektromagnetický popis difrakce.

Abstract:

This work deals with simulations of scattering of electromagnetic radiation by diffraction gratings. The measurement of changes in the polarization state of light due scattering forms the basis of an experimental method called ellipsometry. The objective of this work is to find out, whether there is a possible use of the simulations for determining the geometrical parameters of the grating profile, having obtained experimental data from ellipsometry. The work contains a description of the Fullwave simulation program, an analysis of the simulations and a comparison of simulation and experimental results for a real grating. There is a theoretical part included that shows the Sommerfelds solution of scattering by a perfectly conducting half-plane, presenting an electromagnetic approach to diffraction.
