Mesolithic nourishment: Menu recontruction of the last hunter-gatherer societies

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá rekonstrukcí výživy mezolitických populací, se zaměřením na české lokality. Popisuje principy determinace výživového stavu z lidských kosterních pozůstatků, stejně jako možnosti analýzy archeozoologických i paleobotanických prvků. Nastiňuje některé z variant, jak získaná data dále zpracovat, a snaží se je integrovat do biologického, historického i kulturního kontextu. Zaměřuje se na lovnou zvěř, její výtěžnost a kvalitu masa, i na význam a rozmanitost rostlinné stravy. V poslední části jsou popsány nálezové situace vybraných českých lokalit, s důrazem na artefakty i ekofakty spojené s možným potravním chováním.

Abstract:

The purpose of this thesis is to reconstruct the nutritional habits of mesolithic populations, with an emphasis on sites of the Czech republic. It also describes the principles of estimation of the nutritional status from human remains, the possibilities of an analysis of archeozoological and paleobotanical finds. It also shows some of the possibilities of interpretation and integration into the biological, historical or cultural context. The main focus lies on the game, its yield and meat quality; and the importance and diversity of the plant-based part of a diet. In the last part, the findings in Czech locations are described, focusing on artefacts and ecofacts related to eating behaviour.
