The system of protection of human rights in Africa

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá systémem lidských práv na africkém kontinentu. První část práce stručně popisuje vývoj lidských práv a posléze jsou vymezena lidská práva z obecného hlediska. Následně se práce zaměřuje na lidská práva na africkém kontinentu, kdy nezbytnou součást tvoří regionální lidskoprávní instituce (Africká charta, Africká komise a Africký soud). Další část práce se již zabývá konkrétními případy, které byly řešeny v rámci afrických lidskoprávních institucí. V této části práce jsou zkoumány čtyři případy, které poskytují pohled na reálné fungování a účinnost afrických lidskoprávních mechanismů.

Abstract:

This thesis concerns the system of human rights on the African continent. The first part of this work shortly describes development of human rights and after that, there is a common definition of the term human rights. Subsequently, the work focuses on human rights on the African continent, when the necessary part is to understand regional human rights mechanisms and institutions (African Charter, African Commission and African Court). The following part of the work takes a deeper look at concrete issues, which were dealt with by African institutions concerning human rights. Four cases which provide us a view on the actual function and efficiency of the aforementioned mechanisms are discussed in this part of the work.
