Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na specifickou oblast studia historických písem použitých u prvotisků, a to za využití prostředků moderních technologií. Cílem práce je návrh funkčního a moderního písma, jehož realizace bude vycházet ze studia písma historického, konkrétně ze Staročeské bastardy použité v Kronice Trojánské. K tomu tato práce využívá několika grafických softwarů. První část práce je věnována analýze Kroniky Trojánské se zaměřením na jedno z prvních tiskových písem, použité v první české tiskárně v Plzni pro tisk v českém jazyce, Staročeskou bastardu. Další část je věnována písmové předloze a vývoji písma. Analyzuje obecný vývoj písma a jeho zasazení do historického kontextu. Přitom je kladen důraz na vynález knihtisku a jeho vliv na vývoj a šíření gotického písma, jeho typů, vlivu na šíření bastardy v Evropě i na území Čech. Práce pokračuje analýzou historického písma a jeho rekonstrukcí, která je založena na ručním přepisu písma plochým perem a následné digitalizaci. Závěrečná část, a také výsledek diplomové práce, je zaměřena na návrh autorského písma inspirovaného Staročeskou bastardou. Je kladen důraz na proces, technické aspekty tvorby i výtvarné využití nově navrženého písma. Realizace vychází ze studia počátku knihtisku v Čechách, prací se zdigitalizovanou verzí kroniky, porovnání typů písem použitých v kronice, jeho analýzy, digitalizaci, rekonstrukci a návrhu autorského písma. Výstupem práce jsou dvě písma, historická rekonstrukce Staročeské bastardy použité v Kronice Trojánské a soudobé, autorské písmo Staročeskou bastardou inspirované.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with a specific field of study of historical scripts used in early printed materials, which intersects with the field of modern technologies. The main aim of the thesis is to design a functional and modern typeface, the implementation of which will be based on the study of historical fonts, specifically the Old Bohemian Bastarda used in the Trojan Chronicle. All this is done by using several graphic software tools. The first part of the work is dedicated to the introduction of the Trojan Chronicle, focusing on the history of one of the first printing fonts used in the first Czech printing house in Pilsen for printing in the Old Czech language, the Old Czech bastarda. The second part is devoted to the typeface and its evolution. It summarizes the general development of the typeface and its setting in the broader historical context. It mentions the invention of the printing press and its influence on the development and spread of Gothic script, its types, and its impact on the spread of bastarda in Europe and specifically in Bohemia. The thesis continues with the analysis of the historical script and its reconstruction, which is based on the manual transcription of the script with a flat pen and subsequent digitization. The final part and the main result of the work describes the design of the actual font inspired by the Old Bohemian Bastarda with emphasis on the process, technical aspects of creation and artistic use of the newly designed typeface. The result of this thesis is two functional typefaces, a redesign of the Old Bohemian Bastarda and an original font inspired by the Old Bohemian Bastarda used in the Trojan Chronicle. The creative intent is to update the Bastarda type and design a font for contemporary use. The methodology is based on research into the early history of printing in Bohemia, work with the digitized version of the Chronicle, comparative analysis of font types and the historical alphabet used in the Trojan Chronicle. The main outcome of the work is digitization, reconstruction and design of a new font, and finally, preparation of printed materials for appropriate presentation of the typeface.
