Ethical Issues in Business

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá dnes velmi aktuálním tématem v ekonomice - podnikatelskou etikou. Tato problematika nabývá v moderní společnosti stále většího významu vzhledem k současnému stavu ekonomické situace ve světě i u nás. Práce je rozdělena na tři hlavní části: první část je věnována teoretickému výkladu, jenž se zaměřuje na pojmy a definice etiky, morálky a firemní kultury. Zde bylo důležité vysvětlit rozdíly mezi těmito pojmy a odlišností výkladů autorů knih, které se touto otázkou zabývají. Pozornost je věnována etickým kodexům jakožto součásti firemní kultury a také vztahům etiky k ekonomice a právu. Jelikož dodnes u mnohých panuje názor, že etika v podnikání má jen nepatrný význam a že legislativní opatření etiku dostatečně nahrazují, bylo důležité tuto domněnku vyvrátit. Druhá část se zabývá konkrétními příklady. Jeho hlavní náplní je Etický kodex České bankovní asociace a případy jeho porušování. Bohatým zdrojem informací pro tuto kapitolu byly osobní zkušenosti z praxe. Poslední část znázorňuje následky neetického chování v podnikání a předkálá návrhy na možné zlepšení situace.

Abstract:

This thesis is concerned with business ethics, a topic that is widely discussed nowadays. The role of business ethics is becoming increasingly relevant in modern society due to the current economic situation on both global and domestic scenes. The essay is divided into three main parts: the first part is focused on the theoretical basis and definitions of ethics, morals and corporate culture. It was important to discuss the differences between these terms and various approaches proposed by different scholars. The connection of ethics to economics and law is covered, as well as ethical codes as a part of corporate culture. Since the idea of business ethics playing minor role and legislative measures being interchangeable with ethics is commonly shared, it was important to refute this perspective. Second part of the essay deals with factual examples. It is concerned with the Ethical Code of Czech Banking Association and various cases of its infringement. My personal professional experience is largely used as a source of information. The last part of the thesis presents the consequences of unethical behavior in business and proposes possible solutions to improve the situation. The purpose of the thesis is to introduce the role of ethical behavior primarily in the financial sector, and to recognize the main problems and weaknesses regarding this issue.
