The Full Time Mother - Contents of the editing work in documentary film

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Máma na plný úvazek reflektuje proces vzniku dokumentárního filmu, přesněji řečeno dokumentárního portrétu - medailonu. Skládá se ze dvou zásadních celků: praktickým výstupem práce je DVD s dokumentem, teoretické ukotvení potom nabízí textová část. Dokument Máma na plný úvazek je příběhem o postupném formování adoptivní a pěstounské rodiny. Je intimní zpovědí ženy, která nemohla mít vlastní děti, a přesto se mateřství stalo hlavní náplní jejího života. Jeho vypravěčkou je Miloslava Striová – adoptivní matka a pěstounka, která společně s manželem vychovává osm dětí poloromského původu, z nichž jedno trpí těžkou formou autismu. Jaké je to vyrovnat se s neplodností, předsudky okolí nebo postižením dítěte? Právě na tyto a mnohé další otázky spojené s náhradním rodičovstvím dokument Máma na plný úvazek odpovídá. Textová část práce potom poskytuje nezbytná teoretická východiska spojená s tvorbou dokumentárního filmu. Zaměřuje se přitom zejména na kategorie a koncepty vztahující se k výrazovým prostředkům užívaným ke střihové tvorbě ideového obsahu dokumentárních filmů, přičemž hojně reflektuje konkrétní situace a postřehy z průběhu realizace dokumentu Máma na plný úvazek. Současně rovněž recipientům poskytuje další roviny vnímání, které audiovizuální dílo samo o sobě nezachycuje. Oba hlavní celky tak společně vytvářejí vysoce koherentní dílo.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis called The Full Time Mother reflects the formation of the documentary film, more precisely documentary portrait - profile. It consists of two essential units: firstly, it is the practical output in the form of a DVD with the documentary; secondly, it is the text part which functions as the theoretical base. The Full Time Mother Documentary is a story about creating adoptive and foster family. It is an intimate confession of a woman who could not have had her own children. However, motherhood has become the prime infill of her life. Its main character - narrator is Miloslava Striová – adoptive and foster mother who, together with her husband, raises eight children of half-gypsy origin. Moreover, one of them suffers from a hard form of autism. How does it feel to cope with infertility, prejudices of the neighbourhood or the handicap of a child? The Full Time Mother Documentary offers answers to these, and many other questions connected to the adoptive parenthood. The text part, as the second essential unit of this bachelor thesis, offers indispensable theoretical grounds related to the creation of a documentary film. Particularly it focuses on categories and conceptions connected to the means of expression of editing work used to create ideological contents of documentary films. It also reflects many concrete situations and insights from the process of formation The Full Time Mother Documentary itself. Moreover, the text part brings other levels of perception which could not be transferred just by the documentary as such. Therefore, both essential units mentioned above cooperate on the formation of a very compact piece of work.
