Occurrence of injuries amongst recreational runners on different running surfaces

Abstract:

Běhu se v dnešní době věnují miliony lidí po celém světě, jeho oblíbenost neustále vzrůstá. S rostoucím počtem běžců narůstá výskyt běžeckých zranění. Cílem práce bylo analyzovat, jaká zranění se vyskytují u běžců v Moravskoslezském kraji a zároveň určit četnosti zranění na různých typech povrchů. Testováno bylo 50 běžců, kteří v historii neprodělali žádné vážné běžecké zranění dolních končetin. K zjištění potřebných dat byly využity dva dotazníky. Demografický dotazník pro zjištění typu využívaného běžeckého povrchu a pro zjištění běžeckého zranění dotazník RUNSAFE Running Health Study, který byl vyplňován každý týden v průběhu 6 měsíců. Nejčastější oblastí zranění se stala zadní část bérce, kolenní kloub a noha. Z chronických zranění byl u participantů diagnostikován úraz mediálního menisku, patellofemorální bolest a syndrom iliotibiálního traktu. Předem stanovená hypotéza nebyla potvrzena. U běžců, kteří využívali k běhu pouze asfalt, nebyl vykázán nejvyšší počet zranění. Největší výskyt zranění byl zaznamenán u běžců, kteří využívali asfalt v kombinaci s přírodními povrchy.

Abstract:

Millions of people around the world devote themselves to running nowadays. From the growing number of runners, the incidence of running injuries are increasing. The aim of this work is to analyze what injuries occur to runners in the Moravia - Silesian Region and at the same time, determine the frequency of injuries on different types of surfaces. 50 runners who have not had any previous serious running injuries to their lower limbs have been tested. Two questionnaires were used to determine the necessary data. Demographic questionnaire to determine the type of running surface in use and the RUNSAFE Running Health Study questionnaire which was completed weekly for 6 months. The most common area of injury was lower leg, knee joint and leg. As the chronic injuries participants were diagnosed with meniscal injuries, patella femoral pain syndrome and iliotibial band friction syndrome. The combination of natural surfaces and asphalt showed the highest number of injuries. Therefore the hypothesis was not confirmed and asphalt is not the surface with the highest number of injuries. The highest incidence of injuries was seen among runners who used asphalt in combination with natural surfaces.
