Edge detection - comparative survey

Abstract:

This thesis deals with analysis and comparison of the most popular methods of performance evaluation of edge detection techniques. At the beginning of the thesis, basic terms regarding this topic together with the edge detection process itself and its main algorithms are explained. Methods of performance evaluation are divided and analyzed based on the fact whether the real edge image is provided or not. For better understanding, illustrative examples on how some of the methods work are introduced to reader. The last part shows one of the theoretical approaches for examination of edge detectors features.

Abstract:

Táto práca sa zaoberá analýzou a porovnaním najznámejších metód hodnotenia kvality detekcie hrán a hranových detektorov. Na začiatku práce sú vysvetlené základné pojmy do tejto problematiky spolu so samotný procesom detekcie hrán a jeho hlavnými algoritmami. Metódy hodnotenia kvality sú rozdelené a analyzované na základe toho, či skutočný hranový obraz je známy alebo nie. Pre úspešné pochopenie sú k niektorým z nich uvedené pre čitateľa ilustračné príklady. V poslednej časti je ukázaný jeden z teoretických prístupov skúmania vlastností hranových detektorov.
