The role of ccupational therapist when selecting adequate equipment for children with cerebral palsy

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce nese název "Role ergoterapeuta při výběru kompenzačních pomůcek u dětí s dětskou mozkovou obrnou." Jak již z názvu vyplývá, hlavním cílem práce je zmapování role ergoterapeuta, kterou zastává při výběru kompenzačních pomůcek u dětí s diagnostikovanou dětskou mozkovou obrnou. V teoretické části se bude autorka zabývat také samotnou dětskou mozkovou obrnou, kompenzačními pomůckami a pojmy, jež s těmito okruhy souvisí. Praktická část bakalářské práce obsahuje dvě dotazníková šetření, přičemž dotazník A je určen rodičům dětí s diagnostikovaným DMO a dotazník B ergoterapeutům, pracujícím s dětmi s touto diagnózou v praxi. Výsledky práce ukazují na skutečnost, že informovanost rodičů o roli ergoterapeuta při výběru kompenzačních pomůcek není dostatečná. Zcela chybějící nebo nedostatečné jsou také zdroje, jež by poskytovali souhrn vhodných kompenzačních pomůcek pro děti s DMO. Ergoterapeuti i přes neinformovanost rodičů zastávají svou roli z vlastní iniciativy v praxi. Nejčastěji doporučují kompenzační pomůcky z oblasti sebeobsluhy.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is entitled "The Role of an Occupational Therapist in the Selec- tion of Compensatory Aids for Children with Cerebral Palsy." As the name implies, the main goal of this work is to map the role of occupational therapist, which he or she plays in the selection of compensatory aids for children diagnosed with cerebral palsy. In the theoretical part, the author will also deal with cerebral palsy itself, compensa- tory aids and concepts related to these areas. The practical part of the bachelor's thesis contains two questionnaire surveys, with questionnaire A intended for parents of children diagnosed with cerebral palsy and question- naire B for occupational therapists working with children with this diagnosis in practice. The results of the work show the fact that parents' awareness of the role of occupa- tional therapist in the selection of compensatory aids is not sufficient. There are also missing or insufficient resources that would provide a set of suitable compensatory aids for children with cerebral palsy. Despite their parents' lack of information, occupational therapists play their role on their own initiative in practice. Compensatory aids from the area of self-service are most often recommended.
