Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce předkládá pokus o vůbec první překlad části Anglosaské kroniky do českého jazyka, konkrétně se jedná o překlad Winchesterského rukopisu. Celá práce je rozdělena do tří částí. První, analytická část mj. krátce představuje Anglosaskou kroniku a vysvětluje význam tohoto díla pro západní civilizaci, zejména však předkládá některé překladatelské teorie a postupy, které již celé dekády formují práci překladatelů na celém světě. Postupuje od teorie slovo-slovo a význam-význam (lexikální a volné překládání) přes formální a dynamickou ekvivalenci až k teorii sémantického a komunikativního překladu. Analytická část této práce rovněž pojednává o „mezičasovém překladu“ a historizaci či archaismech v překladu. Druhá část této práce nabízí překladatelský korpus s vůbec prvním překladem Wichesterského rukopisu jakožto nejstarší a první součásti celé Anglosaské kroniky. Korpus následuje třetí a poslední část této práce, ve které je celý korpus podroben obsahové analýze a autor zde publikuje své poznámky a komentáře, ve kterých objasňuje své kroky v průběhu práce na překladu.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis presents an attempt at producing the very first translation of a part of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles into Czech, specifically the Winchester Manuscript. The paper is divided into three sections. The first, analytical part, briefly introduces the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles and explains its significance for the western civilization, presents some translation theories and approaches that have shaped works of translators all around the globe, staring with the theory of word-for-word and sense-for-sense translation, moving on to formal and dynamic equivalence and semantic and communicative translation. The analytical part also deals with cross-temporal translation, historicization and archaisms in translation. The second section of the paper presents a translation corpus with the very first Czech translation of the Winchester Manuscript as the oldest and first segment of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles. The corpus is followed up by the third and final part of the thesis in which the corpus is further analyzed and author’s comments are provided as to why certain steps were made during the work on the translation.
