The influence of the cultural history of the country on gross domestic product

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá vliv kulturní historie země, zastoupené roky válečných konfliktů, počtem vražd per capita, indexem rule of law a podílem věřících v populaci, na vývoj hrubého domácího produktu u 20 různých států. Regresní analýza prováděná pomocí OLS se zahrnutím robustních směrodatných chyb potvrdila statisticky významný vliv všech charakteristik. Historie válečných konfliktů země má jak přímý vliv na velikost hrubého domácího produktu, tak pozdější vliv na násilné chování ve společnosti. Násilné prostředí v zemi snižuje produktivitu, a tím snižuje hrubý domácí produkt. Závěry z této analýzy by mohly mít přínos pro státní složky zabývající se např. domácím násilím, kde by orgány cíleným usměrňováním kulturních faktorů působících negativně na chování člověka zvyšovaly prevenci páchání násilí, a tím zvyšovaly domácí produkt, a hlavně pro manažery podniků rozhodujících se o podnikání v cizích zemích, jelikož analýza poskytuje závěry o jednotlivých faktorech ovlivňujících podnikatelské klima a tedy předpokladech o úspěšnosti podnikání.

Abstract:

The work examines the impact of the cultural history of the country, represented by years of war, the number of murders per capita, index rule of law and the faithful share in the population, to the gross domestic product to 20 different countries. Regression analysis carried out using OLS with the inclusion of robust standard errors confirmed the significant influence of all characteristics. The history of war the country has both a direct effect on the size of the gross domestic product and subsequent influence on violent behavior in society. The violent environment in the country reduces productivity, thereby reducing the gross domestic product. The conclusions from this analysis could have benefits for state bodies dealing with domestic violence, for example, where the authorities targeted directing cultural factor affecting human behavior to increase the prevention of violence and thereby increase domestic product, and especially for managers who make desicions about business in foreign countries, since the analysis provides conclusions on the various factors affecting the business clima and therefore assumptions about the success of the business.
