Theory and practice of laboratory exercises at grammar schools in the Moravian-Silesian Region

Abstract:

Rigorózní práce se zabývá aktuálním stavem laboratorních cvičení z chemie na vyšším stupni gymnázií v Moravskoslezském kraji (MSK), a to jak z pohledu "teoretického", "reálného", tak i "praktického". "Teoretický stav" laboratorních cvičení byl hodnocen na základě studia 31 školních vzdělávacích programů gymnázií (ŠVP G) v MSK. "Reálný stav" laboratorních cvičení byl zjišťován na základě dotazníku učitele (účast 20 učitelů ze 14 gymnázií). Dotazník učitele pokrýval zařazení cvičení během studia, hodinovou dotaci, frekvenci a obsahovou náplň. "Praktický stav" laboratorních dovedností studentů byl zkoumán pomocí problémových úloh (PÚ) na téma filtrace (620 zúčastněných studentů, kteří zároveň vyplňovali dotazník studenta týkající se zejména vztahu k chemii a přírodovědným předmětům). Pomocí jednofaktorové ANOVY a Duncanova testu byl studován vliv 9 faktorů (pohlaví, ročník studia, typ studia, oblíbenost předmětu chemie, vztah k laboratornímu cvičení, účast na chemické soutěži, typ zamýšleného dalšího studia, subjektivní hodnocení jednotlivých úloh a učitel) na úspěšnost v PÚ. Bylo zjištěno, že informace o laboratorních cvičeních se velmi odlišují v jednotlivých ŠVP G co do množství informací, ale také z hlediska frekvence zařazování laboratorních cvičení. Informace o laboratorních cvičeních, které poskytli dotazovaní učitelé ("reálný stav" laboratorních cvičení), odpovídaly informacím uváděným v příslušných ŠVP G ("teoretický stav" laboratorních cvičení). Bylo zjištěno, že cvičení jsou zařazována v 1. - 3. ročníku, nejčastěji v dvouhodinových blocích jednou za dva týdny, typicky z oborů anorganické chemie, organické chemie či laboratorní techniky. V laboratorní technice se studenti nejčastěji věnují filtraci, krystalizaci a destilaci. Výsledky z PÚ ("praktický stav" laboratorních dovedností studentů) ukázaly, že studenti si s tímto typem úloh příliš neumějí poradit (průměrný bodový zisk ze všech 3 úloh byl 33 %), nejlépe studenti zvládli úlohu, ve které měli uvést příklady filtrací z běžného života. Ze statistického zpracování vyplynulo, že lepších výsledků v PÚ dosahovali: ? studenti osmiletého a šestiletého studia než studenti čtyřletého studia, ? studenti, kteří se zúčastnili jakékoli chemické soutěže než ostatní studenti, ? studenti, kteří se plánují věnovat dalšímu přírodovědnému / technickému studiu než studenti, kteří se plánují věnovat studiu humanitnímu. Navíc bylo potvrzeno, že kombinace faktorů "víceleté studium", "účast na chemické soutěži" a "budoucí plánované přírodovědné / technické studium" má synergický pozitivní vliv na úspěšnost v PÚ.

Abstract:

The rigorous thesis deals with the current state of laboratory exercises in chemistry at higher level of grammar schools in the Moravian-Silesian region from the "theoretical", "real" and "practical" point of view. "Theoretical state" of laboratory exercises was evaluated on the basis of the study of 31 school education programs of grammar schools (ŠVP G) in the Moravian-Silesian Region. The "real state" of laboratory exercises was determined on the basis of a teacher's questionnaire (participation of 20 teachers from 14 grammar schools). The teacher's questionnaire covered the implementation of exercises during the study, their hourly allowance, the frequency and content. The "practical state" of students´ laboratory skills were investigated using a problem-based tasks (PBTs) on the topic filtration (620 participating students, who also filled in a student questionnaire concerning especially relationship to chemistry and science subjects). Using one-factor ANOVA and Duncan's test, the influence of 9 factors (gender, year of study, type of study, popularity of chemistry, relationship to laboratory practice, participation in chemical competition, type of intended further study, subjective evaluation of individual PBT, and teacher) was studied regarding success in PBTs. It was found that information about laboratory exercises varies greatly in individual ŠVP G in terms of the amount of information, but also in terms of the frequency of implementation of laboratory exercises. The information about laboratory exercises provided by the teachers ("real state" of laboratory exercises) corresponded to the information given in the relevant ŠVP G ("theoretical state" of laboratory exercises). It was found that the exercises are included in the 1st - 3rd year, most often as two-hour exercise session organised once every two weeks, typically from the fields of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry or laboratory technology. In laboratory technology, students most often deal with filtration, crystallization and distillation. The results from PBTs ("practical state" of students´ laboratory skills) showed that students cannot cope much with this type of tasks (average score from all 3 tasks was 33 %), students were most successful in giving examples of filtration from everyday life. The statistical processing showed that better results in the PBTs were achieved by: ? students of eight-year and six-year study than by students of four-year study, ? students who participated in any chemical competition than by other students, ? students who plan to attend further science / technology studies than by students who plan to pursue humanities studies. In addition, it was confirmed that the combination of the factors "multi-annual study", "participation in a chemical competition" and "future planned science / technology study" has a synergistic positive effect on the success in PBTs.
