Effect of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit environment on psychical state of parents

Abstract:

Cíl: Zjistit, zda má prostředí novorozenecké jednotky intenzivní péče (JIP) vliv na psychiku rodičů. Metodika: Pro sběr empirických dat bude zvolena metoda kvantitativního šetření. Bude použit anonymní dotazník na základě standardizovaného dotazníku od autorky Margaret S. Miles - The Parental Stress Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Výsledky: Z výsledků výzkumu vyplývá, že prostředí novorozenecké jednotky intenzivní péče má vliv na psychiku rodičů. Zjistili jsme, že oblast rodičovské role a omezená možnost rodičů pečovat o dítě je pro rodiče nejvíce stresující. Vyšší míra stresu byla rovněž zaznamenána u respondentek ve Fakultní nemocnici Ostrava. Závěr: Abychom poskytli kvalitní péči nejen novorozenci, ale i jeho rodičům, musíme, mimo jiné, znát potřeby novorozence, rodičů a rodiny jako celku. Zdravotnický personál si musí být vědom veškerých stresujících faktorů v prostředí jednotky intenzivní péče pro novorozence, které by se měl snažit eliminovat. Těmito kroky lze pomoci v budování pevného vztahu mezi rodiči a novorozenci, který je hospitalizovaný na jednotce intenzivní péče pro novorozence.

Abstract:

Target: To find out the influence of the neonatal intensive care unit to the parents mental state. Methodology: The empirical data will be collected per the method of quantitative research. In research will be used the anonymous questionaire based on standardised questionaire by Margaret S. Miles - The Parental Stress Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Results: The results of the research show the environment of the neonatal intensive care unit has a big influence on the parents mental state. We found out that the parental role and the limited parental ability to take care of their child is the most stressful factor. The higher rate of stress was registered also for respondents in Fakultní nemocnice Ostrava. Conclusion: To provide quality care to the newborn baby and to parents as well, it´s neccessary to know the needs of the newborn, parents and the whole family generally. Medical staff has to know all the stressing factors occuring in the environment of the neonatal intensive care unit for newborn and they have to eliminate them. These steps can help to build the solid (strong) relationship between parents and their newborns who are hospitalized in the intensive care unit.
