Fratres Minimi. The German-Czech Province of the Minim's Order in the 16th - 18th centuries

Abstract:

Dizertační práce přibližuje dějiny paulánského řádu ve střední Evropě od počátku formování německo-české provincie ještě za života sv. Františka z Pauly na přelomu 15.-16. století, přes dočasný zánik v období reformace, obnovu a nový rozkvět v barokní době, až po její zánik v době sekularizace řeholního života za Josefa II. Jádro práce představují kapitoly pojednávající o podílu paulánů na pobělohorské rekatolizaci a roli jejich konventů ve společnosti a kultuře barokní doby. Zvláštní prostor je věnován nejúspěšnějším aktivitám řádu – intelektuální činnosti a sepjetí řádu s poutní tradicí. Pozornost je věnována rovněž organizaci provincie, jejím národnostním proměnám, každodennímu životu v klášteře, spiritualitě řádu a hospodářským otázkám.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the history of the Minims Order in central Europe from the beginnings of establishing the German-Czech province still in the times of st. Franciscos of Paola at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, over its temporary abolishment in the period of the Reformation, its revival and a new development in the times of the Baroque until it was abolished in the times of secularization of the monastic life under the rule of Josef II. The focus of the work lies in the chapters dealing with the share of the monks of that order in the period of re-catholicization of the country after the battle of White Mountain and the role of their convents in the society a culture in the Baroque period. A special attention is paid to the most successful activities of the order – the intellectual work and connections of the order with their tradition of pilgrimage. We are also concentrated on the organization of the province, its nationalistic changes, everyday life in the monasteries, its spiritual life, and economic issues.
