Causes and effects of the normalization of relations between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain

Abstract:

Cílem práce je zkoumání příčin a dopadů normalizace vztahů mezi Izraelem, Spojenými Arabskými Emiráty a Bahrajnem. Výzkum je zaměřen domácí a zahraniční politiku Izraele od roku 2015, analýzu Abrahámovských dohod, uzavřených v roce 2020 se Spojenými arabskými emiráty a Bahrajnem a na redefinici bezpečnostního prostředí Blízkého východu způsobenou těmito dohodami. První zvolená výzkumná otázka je zaměřená na příčiny uzavření dohod: Proč Izrael normalizoval vztahy se Spojenými Arabskými Emiráty a Bahrajnem v roce 2020? Druhou výzkumnou otázkou je otázka dopadů: Jakým způsob se normalizace vztahů zapsala do domácí politiky a jak Abrahámovské dohody ovlivňují geopolitickou situaci na Blízkém východě? Tyto otázky budou odpovězeny ve dvou úrovních analýzy, (1) systémové, rozborem vztahů Izraele, Spojených Arabských Emirátů, Bahrajnu, případně jiných relevantních subjektů, a (2) domácí, která se zaměří na izraelské politické strany a dění uvnitř nich.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to examine the causes and effects of the normalization of relations between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The research focuses on Israel's domestic and foreign policy since 2015, an analysis of the Abrahamic Accords concluded in 2020 with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, and the redefinition of the Middle East security environment caused by these agreements. The first research question chosen focuses on the reasons behind the agreements: why did Israel normalize relations with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in 2020? The second research question is one of impact: how has the normalization of relations become embedded in domestic politics and how do the Abrahamic Accords affect the geopolitical situation in the Middle East? These questions will be answered in two levels of analysis, (1) systemic, by analyzing relations between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and possibly other relevant actors, and (2) domestic, which will focus on Israeli political parties and developments within them.
