Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá využitím zjednodušené četby při výuce studentů angličtiny na různých úrovních jazykových znalostí. Za účelem lexikální analýzy je zkoumán Obraz Doriana Graye od Oscara Wildea převyprávěný Jill Nevile. Práce se skládá ze dvou částí. První, teoretická část, se zabývá významem literatury ve výuce anglického jazyka. Dále definuje požadavky na úrovně znalosti anglického jazyka, zejména čtenářské dovednosti, na základě standardů jazykových zkoušek. Druhá, praktická část, poskytuje rozbor knihy se zaměřením na použitou slovní zásobu, její úroveň a četnost v textu. Práce zkoumá vliv zjednodušené četby na cílovou skupinu prostřednictvím strukturovaných rozhovorů a využitím pracovních listů. Práce se zabývá koncepty přizpůsobení textů cílové skupině žáků, konkrétně prostřednictvím využití slovní zásoby ve zjednodušené četbě a analyzuje daný text s cílem prozkoumat dopad na čtenáře ve vztahu k jeho obsahu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the use of graded readers in teaching English language learners at different language proficiency levels. Oscar Wilde’s Picture of Dorian Gray retold by Jill Nevile is examined for the purpose of lexis analysis. The thesis consists of two parts. The first theoretical part considers the importance of literature in teaching the English language. Furthermore, it defines the requirements for certain levels of English language proficiency, particularly reading skills, based on the standards and references to the English language exams. The second practical section provides an analysis of the book with a special focus on the vocabulary used, the level and the number of its appearance in the text. Besides that, it investigates the graded readers’ impact on the focus group through structured interviews with the use of worksheets. The thesis explores the concepts for tailoring texts to the targeted group of learners, specifically via the use of vocabulary in the graded readers. It analyses the given text in order to examine the impact on the readers in relation to its content.
