Communication as a key element in building a relationship between a teacher and a high school student's parents

Abstract:

Téma bakalářské práce je komunikace jako klíčový prvek v budování vztahu mezi učitelem a rodiči žáka střední školy. Cílem bakalářské práce bylo popsat současné vědění o problematice vztahů mezi učiteli a rodiči, nastínit možné problémy, které se v komunikaci mezi učitelem a rodičem žáka mohou objevit a následně ukázat určité způsoby řešení těchto problémů. Pro dosažení cílů práce byl zvolen kvalitativní přístup, a to konkrétně metoda polostrukturovaného hloubkového rozhovoru. Rozhovory byly vedeny se třemi třídními učiteli různého věku a z různých středních škol. Výsledky práce ukazují, že učitelé jsou motivováni ke komunikaci s rodiči především prospíváním žáka, nejčastěji komunikují učitelé emailem a za nejefektivnější způsob komunikace považují osobní setkání. Problémy v komunikaci činí učitelům především rodiče, kteří nepřijdou do školy či neřeší problémy svých dětí včas. Komunikace s rodiči u každého respondenta ovlivňovaly jiné skutečnosti. Dotazovaní se jednoznačně shodují na tom, že komunikace učitelů s rodiči ovlivňuje školní výsledky žáků. Velkým přínosem pro praxi by bylo udržování pravidelného kontaktu s rodiči žáků nehledě na jejich zapojenost, budovat vztah se žákem a mít osobnostní předpoklady pro práci třídního učitele, který musí komunikovat s rodiči mnohem více než běžný učitel. Práce poukázala na málo prozkoumané téma v kontextu střední odborného školství a výsledky naznačují velký význam komunikace s rodiči. Další průzkum by měl směřovat k poznání rodičů a je-jich účasti v komunikaci s učiteli.

Abstract:

The topic of the bachelor's thesis is communication as a key element in building a relationship between teacher and parents of a high school student. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to describe the current knowledge about the relationship be-tween teachers and parents, to outline possible problems that may arise in communication between teacher and parent and then show certain ways to solve these problems. To achieve the goals of the work, a qualitative approach was chosen, namely the method of semi-structured in-depth interview. Interviews were conducted with three class teachers of different ages and from different high schools. The results of the work show that teachers are motivated to communicate with parents primarily by the student school results, teachers most often communicate by email and consider personal meetings to be the most effective way of communication. Problems in communication caused to teachers mainly by parents who do not come to school or do not solve their children's problems on time. Communication with parents for each respondent was influenced by different reality. Respondents clearly agree that communication between teachers and parents affects students' school results. A great benefit for the professional experience would be to maintain regular contact with the students’ parents, regardless of their involvement, to build a relationship with the student and to have personality prerequisites for the work of a class teacher who has to communicate with parents much more than a regular teacher. The work pointed to a little-explored topic in the context of high school and the results suggest the great importance of communication with parents. Further research should aim to get to know parents and their participation in communication with teachers.
