Work/Life Balance: Reconciling of Needs of the Employees Returning From Maternity/Parental Leave with the Aproaches of Management

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problémem nerovnováhy mezi prací a rodinou v pobočkách vybrané organizace v Jihomoravském kraji. Konkrétně se věnuje potřebám souvisejícím se sladěním práce a rodiny u zaměstnankyň po návratu z MD/RD, a přístupu vedoucích pracovníků k nim. Poznávacím cílem práce je tak nalézt odpověď na hlavní výzkumnou otázku, která zní: Jsou potřeby zaměstnankyň po MD/RD, týkající se slaďování práce a rodiny, a přístup jejich vedoucích v souladu? Práce se skládá ze tří částí. V teoretické části jsou vymezena teoretická východiska a též legitimita zkoumaného problému. Metodologická část popisuje metodologické aspekty výzkumu, pro který byla zvolena kvalitativní výzkumná strategie. Empirická část práce se týká analýzy získaných dat a jejich interpretace. V závěru diplomové práce jsou poté shrnuty získané poznatky a navržena doporučení pro zajištění souladu mezi potřebami a přístupem obou skupin. Jako hlavní potřeby zaměstnankyň po návratu z MD/RD byly v práci vymezeny potřeba času, financí a zajištění péče o dítě v době výkonu placené práce. Vedoucí pracovníci se se zaměstnankyněmi mnohdy domluví a snaží se jim s naplněním jejich potřeb pomoci. Ne všichni a vždy však vycházejí vstříc, zejména skrze provozní podmínky, což ale nemusí být legitimním důvodem.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the problem of imbalance between work and family in the selected branches of one state-owned organization in the South Moravia. It examines the needs related to reconciling work and family life of employees returning from maternity and parental leave, and also managers stance to these needs. Cognitive task is to find out an answer to the main research question, which is: Are the needs of workers who have just returned from maternity/parental leave and their managers stance in line? The thesis consists of three parts. The theoretical part defines the theoretical background and also the legitimacy of the research problem. The methodological part describes all the methodological aspects of the research for which was chosen qualitative research strategy. The empirical part concerns the analysis of the data and their interpretation. In conclusion, there is a summary of the main findings and also recommendations how to reconcile needs of worker and managers stance because their harmonization might help to solve the problem of imbalance between work and family. As the main needs of the employees, who have returned from maternity/parental leave, were identified time, finances and providing for child care during the period of paid work. Managers frequently speak with the employee and they try to provide them with the fulfillment of their needs. However, a lot of managers do not do that and they plead operational conditions as an excuse. But operational conditions may not be a legitimate reason.
