Student motivation and satisfaction while studying at university

Abstract:

Vysokoškolských studentů každým rokem přibývá. Jaké faktory mají zásadní vliv na rozhodnutí nastoupit na vysokou školu či jaká převažuje motivace ke studiu? To jsou hlavní otázky, které jsme si pro tuto bakalářskou práci položili. Cílem rovněž bylo porovnat studijní motivaci se spokojeností studentů na Ostravské univerzitě a vyhodnotit spokojenost se studiem. Pro náš kvantitativní výzkum jsme využili dotazníkovou metodu vlastní konstrukce. Výzkum byl zaměřen na studenty prezenční formy studia na Ostravské univerzitě. Zjistili jsme, že většina našich respondentů považuje vysokoškolského vzdělání za nutnost s ohledem na práci, kterou chtějí vykonávat a jejich primární motivací ke studiu na vysoké škole je jejich zájem o daný obor. Rovněž jsme odhalili, že studenti dosahující lepšího studijního průměru jsou spokojenější se svým studiem. Náš výzkumný soubor je celkově spokojen se studiem na Ostravské univerzitě, s tím, že se pro tuto vysokou školu rozhodli převážně z důvodu její lokality.

Abstract:

The number of university student is increasing every year. What are the factors that have a major influence on their desicion to study at a university and what is their motivation to study? These are the key questions that we asked in this bachelor thesis. Another goal was to compare study motivation with students satisfaction at the University of Ostrava and evalute students' satisfaction with the study. For our quantitative research, we used a questionnaire method that we designed specifically for this purposes. The research was focused on full-time students at the University of Ostrava. As a result, we found out that most of the respondents consider higher education to be a necessity for their future work and their primary motivation to study at a university is their interest in the chosen field. We also found out that students achieving better grades are more satisfied with their studies. Our research group is overal satisfied with the University of Ostrava, while they decided to study at this university mainly due to its location.
