Organizational Structures and Their Impact on Theatre Efficiency

Abstract:

Práce Organizační struktury a jejich vliv na výkonnost divadel se pokouší ověřit několik hypotéz: organizační struktura má zásadní vliv na výkonnost divadla; čím plošší organizační struktura, tím výkonnější organizace; čím demokratičtější způsob řízení a komunikace, tím výkonnější organizace. Pro potřeby práce je zpracován ucelený přehled již existující typologie organizačních struktur včetně vazby a využitelnosti v současném českém divadle. Tento přehled je brán jako východisko pro návrh vlastní typologie organizačních struktur vhodných pro divadla. Tato obsáhlá teoretická část pojednává o podstatě a smysluplnosti organizačních struktur, stejně jako o jejich vlivu na chod a řízení organizace. Součástí práce je i mnohonásobná případová studie devíti vybraných divadel, které byly vygenerovány na základě předem definovaných parametrů. Zkoumanými oblastmi jsou: způsob komunikace, způsob rozhodování a řízení, organizační struktura a výkonnostní ukazatele. Každému zkoumanému subjektu se práce věnuje zvlášť. Kromě posouzení stavu věcí je součástí i praktický návrh úprav organizačních struktur.

Abstract:

Organizational Structures and Their Impact on Theatre Efficiency is trying to respond to several hypotheses: organizational structure has an essential influence on theatre efficiency; the flatter the organizational structure, the more efficient organization; the more democratic management and communication, the more efficient organization. Complete overview of the existing typology of organizational structures including links and applicability in the contemporary Czech theatre has been elaborated for the purpose of this work. This overview is considered a starting point of proposal of actual typology of organizational structures suitable for theatres. This extensive theoretical part deals with the essence and meaningfulness of organizational structures as well as their influence on the operation and management of an organization. The work also includes a manifold case study of nine theatres which have been selected according to the predefined parameters. The examined areas include: the way of communication, the way of decision-making and management, organizational structure and efficiency indicators. The work deals with each examined entity separately. Apart from the evaluation of the current state of affairs it also includes a practical proposal for adjustments to organizational structures.
