Gender stereotypes in the selection process in a selected organization

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na problematiku genderových stereotypů ve výběrovém řízení na manažerské pozice. Cílem práce je odpovědět na hlavní výzkumnou otázku, která zní: „Jak genderové stereotypy ovlivňují výběr na manažerské pozice ve vybrané organizaci?“. Jako první se věnuji teoretickému vymezení konceptů genderových stereotypů, kde popisuji rozdíly mezi pojmem stereotyp, předsudek a postoj. Dále se věnuji problematice genderu a to jak v rovině obecné, tak se zaměřením na manažerskou pozici. V druhé kapitole se věnuji metodám a technikám výběru na manažerské pozice, kde zohledňuji i etiku tohoto procesu. V závěrečné kapitole vymezuji pojmy manažer, jeho odlišení od řadových pracovníků, role v organizaci a kompetence, které zastává. Z teoretické části jsem vyvodila dílčí výzkumné otázky, které byly základem pro realizaci výzkumu. Jako techniku sběru dat jsem použila analýzu dokumentů organizace a kvalitativní polostrukturovaný rozhovor. Empirická část tohoto výzkumu interpretuje sebraná data z hlediska vymezených teoretických konceptů a snaží se popsat vliv genderových stereotypů na výběr ve vybrané organizaci. Hlavní zjištění výzkumu jsou shrnuta v závěrečné diskusi.

Abstract:

The aim of this master thesis is to find answer to main research question: “How gender stereotypes influence selective process of management level jobs in selected organization?” The basic theoretical concepts, which are also the theoretical basis for the research are introduced at the beginning of the thesis. The introduction chapter deals with concepts of attitude, stereotype and prejudice. This chapter also focuses on gender, both on the basic level and in context o management. The second chapter deals with selection methods and techniques for managerial jobs and also focuses on ethics of this process. The last chapter focuses on differences between terraced workers and managers, the role of manager and manager competence. From theoretical part of this thesis I draw partial research questions that gave me basis for conducting research. I chose semi-structured interview and analysis of organization documents as method of data collecting. Empirical part of this thesis interprets collected data from theoretical point of view and describes influences of gender stereotypes on selective process in selected organization.
