Activity based costing and its impact on the corporate performance

Abstract:

Jednou z možností, jak zvýšit výkonnost podniku, je snižovat náklady. Nástrojem pro toto snižování může být řízení nákladů podle aktivit - Activity-based costing. Tento nástroj je v praxi českých podniků stále relativně nový. Cílem disertační práce je zejména zjistit, zda má jeho používání pozitivní vliv na finanční výkonnost podniků a také zmapovat jeho současné rozšíření a míru využívání mezi českými podniky. V souvislosti s podnikovou výkonností bylo ověřováno také zavádění ABC v určitých fázích životního cyklu podniku. První část práce shrnuje dosavadní poznatky o ABC, možnostech jeho používání v podniku a jeho teoretickém vlivu na výkonnost. Druhá, stěžejní část práce, představuje vlastní rozsáhlý kvantitativní výzkum doplněný o kvalitativní šetření v podobě dvou případových studií. Byla zjištěna postupná expanze používání ABC v České republice, ačkoliv jej podniky zavádějí pouze v omezené míře a nevyužívají všechny jeho možnosti. Výsledky neprokázaly pozitivní vliv používání ABC na finanční výkonnost podniku, která je u podniků s ABC naopak nižší. Podniky nejčastěji zavádějí ABC v životní fázi stabilizace a obnovy.

Abstract:

One way to increase the performance of the company is to reduce costs. A tool for this reducing can be Activity-based costing. This tool is in the practice of Czech enteprises still relatively new. The aim of the thesis is mainly to find out whether its using has a positive impact on the financial performance of the companies and to map its current expansion and utilization among Czech companies. In relation to corporate performance, also the introduction of ABC at certain stages of the business life cycle was verified. The first part of the thesis summarizes current knowledge about Activity-based costing, the possibilities of its usong in the enterprise and its teoretical impact on performance. The second, main part of the thesis, presents own quantitative research supplemented by qualitative surveys in the form of two case studies. The expansion of Activity-based costing continue in the Czech Republic, although companies only use a limited extent of it and do not exploit all its possibilities. The results did not prove the positive impact of using of Activity-Based Costing on financial performance of company. Enteprises most often implement ABC in the life phase of stabilization and renewal.
