The place and role of the World Bank in the world economy

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je popsat a zhodnotit roli a vliv Světové banky na světovou ekonomiku. Teoretická část práce popisuje historii, organizační a finanční strukturu Světové banky. Jsou vymezeny funkce její úvěrové politiky a programy, na které je zaměřena, průběh poskytnutí úvěru a konkrétní okruhy, ve kterých Světová banka pomáhá potřebným regionům. Také je zmíněn pohled Světové banky na postavení České republiky. Dále je uveden přehled nejvýznamnějších kritických postojů k činnosti Světové banky a stručná charakteristika vybraných alternativních poskytovatelů rozvojové podpory. Praktická část je zaměřena na analýzu dat z poledních let o objemech finančních prostředků a jejich rozdělení na podporované projekty v jednotlivých regionech, následně zhodnocení vývojových trendů u demografických a ekonomických parametrů, sledovaných Světovou bankou. Na základě výsledků těchto analýz je hledána odpověď na stanovené výzkumné hypotézy o vlivu skupiny Světové banky na regionální i globální ekonomický vývoj.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to describe and evaluate the role and influence of the World Bank on the world economy. The theoretical part describes the history, organizational and financial structure of the World Bank. The functions of its loaning policy and the programs on which it is focused, the course of loaning and the specific areas in which the World Bank assists the necessary regions are defined. The World Bank's view of the position of the Czech Republic is also mentioned. The following is an overview of the most important critical attitudes to the activities of the World Bank and a brief description of selected alternative providers of development support. The practical part is focused on the analysis of data from the previous years on the volume of funds and their distribution to supported projects in individual regions, followed by the evaluation of development trends in demographic and economic parameters monitored by the World Bank. Based on the results of these analyzes, an answer is sought to the established research hypotheses about the influence of the World Bank Group on regional and global economic development.
