Analysis of business processes in Rooms Division of a selected hotel

Abstract:

Problematika procesního řízení v hotelu je téma relativně nové a málo prozkoumané. Cílem této práce byla identifikace procesů řízení ubytovacího úseku vybraného hotelu a zpracování jejich popisu formou procesních modelů podle metodiky ARIS. Pro analýzu byl vybrán velký čtyřhvězdičkový hotel v Praze. Data pro zpracování modelů byla sbíraná během jednoho roku pomoci metod analýzy a pozorování. Jako nejdůležitější procesy byly identifikovány check-in a check-out, probíhající na recepci. Byl proveden komplexní rozbor procesů. V softwaru ARIS Architekt byly zpracovány grafické modely pomocí speciálních diagramů. V návaznosti na cíl práce byla stanovena výzkumná otázka: jaká rizika vznikají během vykonávání procesu a jakým způsobem ohrožují jeho plynulý průběh? Zjištěná rizika byla rozdělena na tři kategorie podle příčiny jejich vzniku. Na závěr jsou formulovány konkrétní návrhy, které by měly vést ke snížení dopadu některých zjištěných rizik. Diplomová práce má přispět nejen ke zlepšení situace ve vybraném hotelu, ale i v celém oboru.

Abstract:

Business process management in hospitality is a relatively new and unexplored topic. The goal of this thesis was to identify business processes in Rooms Division of the selected hotel and to create their description in the form of business process models using the ARIS methodology. The analysis was performed on the processes of a large four-star hotel in Prague. The data used as a basis for the models were collected during a one-year period using the methods of analysis and observation. The processes check-in and check-out, being performed at Front Office, were identified as the most important. A comprehensive analysis was performed on them. Graphical models were created using specialized diagrams in the ARIS Architect software. Based on the goal of this work, following research question was formulated: What risks arise during the process execution and how do they endanger its course? Identified risks were separated into three categories based on their cause. Finally, specific proposals are formulated, that should mitigate the impact of some of the identified risks. This master’s thesis should not only contribute to improving the situation in the selected hotel but also in the whole field.
