The needs of oncologically treated children

Abstract:

Cíl: Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce je zjistit, jak onkologická léčba ovlivňuje potřeby dětských pacientů a jakým způsobem dopadá na kvalitu jejich běžného života. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvoří pět dětských pacientů záměrně vybraných na klinice dětské onkologie Brno, kteří splňovali daná kritéria výzkumného šetření. Sběr dat probíhal v říjnu 2022 se souhlasem Fakultní nemocnice Brno. Metodou sběru dat byl použit polostrukturovaný rozhovor. Pro doplnění odpovědí dětí a adolescentů jsou do výzkumu zařazení také někteří rodiče. Výsledky: Z výzkumného šetření vyplývá, že u každého dotazovaného došlo vlivem léčby k ovlivnění jejich potřeb. I přes fakt, že je onkologická diagnóza velmi závažná a ve velké míře ovlivňuje život dítěte i jeho blízkých, se nemocní a rodiče zdáli být s léčbou spokojení a smíření. Ze zkoumaných oblastí byla nejvíce zasažena oblast biologických potřeb. Největší změny se vyskytly v potřebě stravování. Chemoterapeutická léčby zasáhla do oblasti stravování u všech dotazovaných, a to v podobě změny apetitu, omezení potravin a tvorby bolestivých aft. Závěr: Tato bakalářská práce poskytuje nahlédnutí do života onkologicky léčených dětí, adolescentů a jejich rodin. Vybraní participanti hovořili o prožívání náročné léčby a celkových změnách, které vlivem léčby malignity nastaly. Práce potvrzuje, že je protinádorová terapie provázena řadou vedlejších účinků, které ovlivňují potřeby nemocných. Rodiče i personál si ovlivnění potřeb onkologicky nemocných musí uvědomovat, podle toho se k nemocnému stavět a snažit se jim porozumět

Abstract:

The Aim: The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out how cancer treatment affects the needs of paediatric patients and how it affects their quality of life. Methodology: Data collection took place in October 2022 with the consent of the University Hospital Brno. Semi-structured interview was the method of data collection. To supplement the children's responses, some parents were also included in the research. Results: The research shows that each respondent's needs were affected by the treatment. Despite the fact that the cancer diagnosis is very serious and affects the life of the child and his/her relatives to a great extent, the patients and parents seemed to be satisfied and reconciled with the treatment. Of the areas examined, the area of biological needs was the most affected. The greatest changes occurred in the need to eat. The chemotherapy treatments affected the area of eating for all respondents, in the form of changes in appetite, food restriction and the formation of painful aphthae. Conclusion: Bachelor thesis provides insight into the lives of children, adolescents and their families who have been treated for cancer. Selected participants talked about experiencing challenging treatment and the overall changes that occurred due to malignancy treatment. The work confirms that anticancer therapy is accompanied by a number of side effects that affect the needs of patients. Parents and staff need to be aware of the impact on the needs of cancer patients, treat the patient accordingly and try to understand them.
