Stereotypes related to verlan: diatopic variation in French rap

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on verlanized words in French rap. The aim is to compare graphic versions and functions of these very frequent anagrams and especially from the origin of interpreters themselves who have used them in their songs. The material resource became a corpus of French rap songs RapCor. Our subcorpus is compiled to allow to do comparative analysis focused on observing differences in using a specific word formation process among rappers from North or South France. The work is divided into two parts. The first theoretical part summarizes knowledge about the subject of our research. It also defines the area of our research and tries to delineate general differences in diatopic conditioned versions of French rap. In the practical part we focus on changes of graphic versions, inner structure veralnizes a number of verlanized words used in analyzed songs by every interpreter and location and function of verlan in rappers’ lyrics. The practical result of the thesis is to describe process of lemmatization of constant graphic variants.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá verlanizovanými slovy ve francouzském rapu. Cílem práce je porovnání grafických variant a funkcí těchto často identitárních přesmyček, a to zejména z hlediska původu interpretů, kteří je v písních použili. Materiálovým východiskem se stal korpus francouzských rapových písní RapCor. Náš subkorpus je sestaven tak, aby umožnil provedení komparativní analýzy zaměřené na sledování odlišností v užívání daného slovotvorného procesu mezi rapery pocházejícími ze severní nebo z jižní Francie. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, z nichž první, teoretická, shrnuje poznatky o předmětu našeho výzkumu. Vymezuje také oblast našeho zkoumání a pokouší se nastínit obecné rozdíly v diatopicky podmíněných variantách francouzského rapu. V praktické části pak sledujeme změny v grafických variantách, vnitřní strukturu verlanizací, počet verlanizovaných slov použitých v analyzovaných písních a jednotlivými interprety a také umístění a funkce verlanu v textech raperů. Praktickým výstupem práce je popis postupu při lematizaci neustálených grafických variant.
