Legal awareness of nurses in intensive medicine

Abstract:

Z důvodu technologického a výzkumného vývoje ve zdravotnictví je na všeobecnou sestru v intenzivní medicíně kladeno čím dál více nároků po stránce praktických dovedností, teoretických vědomostí a samostatnosti při výkonu profese za udržení individuálního a lidského přístupu vůči pacientům. Problematika právního povědomí sester doposud nemá dostatečnou prioritu. Cílem diplomové práce bylo zhodnotit znalost platné legislativy, která je relevantní pro sestry pracující na odděleních intenzivní péče. V teoretické části byly zavedeny pojmy a představen právní rámec zdravotní péče v České republice. Empirická část vycházela z výstupů dotazníkového šetření. Analýza četností a postupy statistického testování hypotéz ukázalo, že sestry v intenzivní péči nemají dostatečné právní povědomí, a to zejména v kritických otázkách. Na polovinu vědomostních otázek neodpovědělo správně více, než 50 % sester. Druhým hlavním zjištěním bylo to, že podpora ve vzdělávání v právní oblasti, poskytovaná zaměstnavatelem, je vnímána jako nedostatečná. Jako nejlepší formu legislativního vzdělávání a rozšiřování vybíraly sestry možnost odborného semináře. V diskusní kapitole empirické části jsou všechna zjištění shrnuta a diskutována spolu s návrhem dalších kroků a opatření vedoucích ke zvýšení právního povědomí sester v intenzivní péči. Autor například navrhuje audit současného stavu, identifikaci oblastí, kde se nejvíce dělají chyby, přípravu krátkých shrnujících materiálů, intenzivnější školení formou odborných seminářů, ověřování správnosti postupů nebo větší objem hodin právního minima ve výuce sester. Cíl diplomové práce byl naplněn, výsledky vyvrátily domněnku, že právní povědomí sester je na dostatečné úrovni. Výzkum přispěl ke zhodnocení stávající situace a návrhu kroků vedoucích ke zlepšení.

Abstract:

More and more requirements in terms of practical skills, theoretical knowledge and self-reliance during her performance are given for general nurse in an intensive care by reason of technology and research development in the health sector. All of these aspects while maintaining of an individual and human approach towards patients. Juridical awareness issue of nurses has not yet a sufficient priority. Objective of the diploma thesis was to assess legislation in force awareness being relevant for nurses working on intensive care hospital wards. The terminology and legislation framework of health care in the Czech Republic were introduced in the theoretical section. Empirical section is based on survey outcomes. Frequency analysis and methods of statistical testing of hypotheses indicated that nurses in intesive care do not have sufficient juridical awareness, namely in critical issues. Half of knowledge-oriented questions were not correctly answered by more than 50 % of nurses. The second main outcome is that education support in the legal area provided by the employer is perceived as insufficient. An option of expert seminar was selected by nurses as the best form of the juridical education and its extension. All findings as summarized and discussed together with the next steps and actions proposal in the discussion chapter of the empirical section. Actions should lead to the enhancement of the juridical awareness of nurses in intensive care. Author proposes for instance as-is audit, identification of areas where mistakes are mostly common, preparation of brief summarizing materials, more intense training in the form of expert seminars, verification of correctness of procedures or larger number of hours of juridical introductions in the nurses' education. The objective of the diploma thesis was satisfied, assumption of nurses' satisfactory juridical awareness was rebutted by results. The survey contributed to the assessment of the current situation and to the proposal of improvement actions.
