A Life Style as Motivation of Americans to the Czech Society

Abstract:

Práce rozebírá otázku životního stylu a integrace Američanů žijících v ČR od roku 1990 do roku 2008. Popisuje hlavní aspekty americké identity a životního stylu, srovnává je s českou společností, zvláště pak poukazuje na skutečnost, jak životní styl ovlivňuje integraci cizince do společnosti. Práce je postavena především na terénním výzkumu a literatuře týkající se identity a etnicity.

Abstract:

The work tries to illustrate the theoretical concepts of life-style and integration using the examples of American citizens living in the Czech Republic in the period 1990-2008. It describes the main characteristics of the American life-style (and American identity) as a result of historical process and compares it with the Czech life-style, especially as perceived by the foreigners, to show to which extend the original life-style influences the integration into the new society. The data for the study are taken from a cited literature and above all from the interviews with three American citizens who have been living in the Czech Republic since 1990, found a permanent job here and established close relations within the Czech society, including marriage, children, etc.
