Working from Home and the change of working habits: The view of employees working in the technological sphere

Abstract:

Home office (telework, working from home) is one of the popular benefits that employers include in their job offers or use it as a reward to employees, for example, for year of service. Although many Czech and foreign studies are devoted to working from home, the terminology may differ in the languages altogether with the perspective on the given issue. This work focuses on the perspective of employees working in the technological sphere and their transition to the home office. The goal Home office (telework, working from home) je jedním z oblíbených benefitů, který zaměstnavatelé často uvádí ve svých nabízených pracovních pozicích nebo jej nabízí jako odměnu zaměstnancům například za odpracované roky. Ačkoliv se práci z domova věnuje mnoho českých i zahraničích studií, terminologie se může v jazycích lišit a s tím i pohled na danou problematiku. Tato práce se zaměřuje na pohled zaměstnanců pracujících v technologické sféře a jejich přechod na home office. Cílem je zjistit, jak se změnily jejich pracovní zvyky a návyky a jestli zaměstnanci hodnotí home office kladně. Jelikož tranzice byla vynucena vládními bezpečnostními opatřeními z důvodu pandemie COVID-19, je tato skutečnost taktéž zahrnuta ve výzkumu. Studie má kvalitativní povahu a je provedena pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s šesti zaměstnanci technologické firmy. Výzkum odhalil skutečnosti, které ovlivňují pracovní výkon zaměstnanců, jejich preference, skloubení pracovního a osobního života a celkovou prožitou zkušenost.

This work focuses on the perspective of employees working in the technological sphere and their transition to the home office. The goal is to find out how their work habits and routine have changed and whether employees rate the home office positively. As the transition was forced by government security measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this fact is also included in the research. The study is qualitative in nature and is conducted using semi-structured interview with six employees of a technology company. The research revealed the facts that influence the work performance of employees, their preferences, the work-life balane and the overal experience.
