Využití SBC v infrastruktuře vzdělávací instituce

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá otázkou, zdali jsou SBC (Single board computer) vhodné jako plnohodnotná náhrada tradičních serverů pro mateřské, základní či střední školy a podobné instituce. V práci jsou pojednávány limity zařízení a porovnávány různé konfigurace zařízení, aby bylo dosaženo co nejefektivnějších výsledků. Při sestavování konfigurace je také brán zřetel na bezpečnost a spolehlivost výsledného zařízení. Na základě vybrané konfigurace je popsán postup, jako podklad k dosažení identického pro- středí, který je v práci uvažován. Po sestavení výsledné konfigurace jsou provedeny zátěžové testy, ilustrující hranice a limity zařízení. Z výsledků testů lze následně zjistit závislost po- čtu souběžných uživatelů na rychlosti jejich obsloužení, průměrná doba vyřízení požadavku jednoho uživatele, maximální počet uživatelů v jeden moment či nebo např. vliv obsahu webového serveru na jeho výkonu. V poslední části jsou porovnány finanční náklady zřízení RPi serveru s jinými zařízeními spadající do serverové kategorie spolu s možností pronájmu VPS či dedikovaných serverů a zde lze odpovědět, že RPi je finančně o poznání výhodnější, ovšem nelze jím nahradit nejnovější profesionální servery. Z výsledků práce nelze jednoznačně odpovědět, zdali je zařízení vhodné jako náhrada tra- dičních serverů pro všechny zmíněné instituce, lze ovšem říct, že pro množinu z nich využití určitě má. Zde záleží na konkrétních nárocích dané instituce, které lze srovnat s výsledky testů v této práci a zjistit, zdali je vhodné pro konkrétní instituci.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is questioning whether single board computers are viable alternative to traditional servers for kindergartens, elementary or high schools and similar institutions. It discusses limits of such devices and compares different possible configurations in order to achieve the most effective results, while also paying attention to security and reliability of the final configuration. The chosen configuration may be easily reproduced by following steps described in second part of the thesis. It is followed by performance testing, measuring its limits. The results show dependency between the number of users connected at the same time and the speed of the server, average serving time for one user, maximum number of concurrent users or, for example, an effect a content of web server has on its performance. Last segment compares financial expenses for purchasing RPi device with other server solutions, including VPS or dedicated servers. It is safe to say that RPi has an advantage in this area as it is very affordable in its class, however it will not replace the latest professional servers. There is no clear answer, whether is such device suitable as alternative to traditional servers for all mentioned institutions. However, it may be very useful for a subset of them, depending on each institution’s requirements. The tests in this thesis should provide necessary data for the decision.
