The influence of reading stories on emotional dream content

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vlivem čtení povídek na emoční snový obsah. Práce je roz-dělená do dvou částí, a to na teoretickou a výzkumnou. Jednotlivé kapitoly teoretické části popisují problematiku spánku, snění a emocí. Výzkum byl realizovaný pomocí experimentu v přirozeném prostředí. Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit, zda emoce, které povídky po přečtení vyvolaly se následně promítnou do snů a jestli budou mít větší intenzitu než emoce povíd-kami nevyvolané. Dále nás zajímalo, jestli to bude mít vliv na celkový odpočinek. Výběro-vý soubor tvořilo padesát osm mužů a žen ve věkovém rozmezí od dvaceti do třiceti let. Z výsledku studie vyplývá, že ovlivnit emoční snový obsah vystavením emočnímu stimulu pomocí emočně laděných povídek před usnutím možné je. Výsledky také ukazují, že tyto povídkami vyvolané emoce mají větší intenzitu než emoce ostatní. Na subjektivně pociťo-vaný odpočinek ovlivnění emočního obsahu snu nemělo vliv. Z výsledků také vyplynulo, že osoby z experimentální skupiny, které četly před spaním povídky častěji uváděly, že si sen pamatují.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the influence of reading short stories on emotional content of dream. Thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and research. The individual chapters of the theoretical part describe the issues of sleep, dreaming and emotions. The research was carried out using a natural experiment. The aim of the research was to find out whether the emotions that the short stories evoked after reading will subsequently be reflected in the dreams and whether they will be more intense than the emotions not evoked by the short stories. We also wondered if it would affect the overall relaxation. The sample consis-ted of fifty-eight men and women ranging in age from twenty to thirty. The results of the study show that it is possible to influence the emotional content of dream by exposing it to an emotional stimulus by means of emotionally stories before falling asleep. The results also show that these emotions evoked by the story are more intense than other emotions. The subjectively felt rest was not affected by the influence of the emotional content of the dre-am. The result also showed that people from the experimental group who read short stories before going to bed more often stated that they remembered the dream.
